Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories is not a good game. Its design is archaic, its presentation is lacking, and its story is nonsensical. But anyone who enjoys janky, weird games will very likely have a good time with it. It might not be quality, but it's often very entertaining.

Despite its interesting proposal, the poor graphical performance at certain points of the game and the lack of relevance from the survival mechanics, makes it difficult to rate this title higher.

It’s just a shame that the execution of everything here leaves a lot to be desired. The performance of the game is significantly less than ideal, with there being far too many loading screens that go on for far too long. There’s also the occasional visual glitch and broken frame rate to help you feel like your TV might be broken. It’s a collection of cool concepts, but it’s not anywhere near as polished as it could be.

  1. Without having been in one myself I can’t say with any authority that Disaster Report 4 isn’t an accurate representation of the kinds of things that happen after a real earthquake, but I’m willing to guess that it falls short of a true simulation. It’s certainly about as ridiculous as the unfolding apocalypse happening outside our own windows – where society has seemingly ejected its collective mind to stockpile eggs and demand that the army open fire on joggers – but it’s about as passive as our lockdown too. Disaster Report 4 depicts a strange and consequence-averse crisis, in which you’re usually little more than a hapless observer.

But the fans of the series will rather be able to live with the mistakes and shortcomings. The actual story is very interesting and can also be convincing at times. But the further implementation and the actual gameplay can't really captivate you on the console or the PC nowadays. So we can only say a pity and rather sadly say goodbye to the game. Who nevertheless needs a new title should rather look out for other games.
