Planetary Annihilations: TITANS resembles the game PA should have been at release. [Oct 2015]

Better than the original Kickstarter version. It's not perfect, but a step in the right direction and worth playing - due to the lack of competition.

It’s far from the best RTS game on the market, and existing Planetary Annihilation players whose enthusiasm has waned are unlikely to find much here to reignite it.

  1. This is an improved version of the game but, in singleplayer and in 1v1, it retains the same rigidity as the original release.

The stand-alone addon solves a lot of issues I had with the original PA, brings fresh wind and a much changed gameplay with its new units and simply transports PA into the Supreme Commander Age.

The drama and the community and uebers way to deal with the hard trolling community? Bad as ever, but the game is rocking. The biggest issue that stays relevant is the AI, so if you are a veteran of RTS I suggest to buy the game on a discount, if you own PA already it is already on discount for you and is worth every cent of the 12,58 they ask for.

The style and cameraRetains the spirit of TA with some new flair with new units from PA and is one of the best RTS games on the market. The style and camera controls can be a bit awkward sometimes but become almost a charming part of the game after a few hours. When playing galactic war is is possible to gain multiple sub commanders making the game play itself, which i do not recommend. Expand

Many units to be build and controlled (vehicles, air, robots, naval and space) and plenty of buildings to be constructed.

I've played >20h in cooperative multiplayer with a buddy against AI and total >30h because there is a single player as well.

The TITANS expansion changes the game somewhat - but not to a much better in my opinion.

However - it should be said that the performance is straight out much better. No crashes - and except for rare freezes in server mode - hardly any problems at all. (well, the loading times are kind of long - but i don t care much for that)

The tactical aspect of the game does not work for me because the game encourages only one tactic: Optimize production chain - and rush your enemy! - Although there is kind of a choice between an early cheap rush and a midgame tier 2 rush - its a rush all the same.

Titans appear pretty much only when you allow it (on one planet games) - they are so slow to build that at the same time - the enemy can steamroll the base with tier 2 units or artillery.

For me - the main problem - again - is the absence of tactical environment. The planets do have mountains and cracks - but they play a very insignificant role - not even oceans offer any greater tactical advantage/disadvantage. - The games defense options are equally poor - with shields gone (understandable but somewhat not beneficial in my opinion) bases have extremely low defense capabilities against approaching units.

Planets themselves are still waaay too small - and a large map in SC:FA is much, much larger.

Now playing on a map with multiple planets is more interesting as it is more challenging to establish a bridgehead on an already entrenched planet - but then again - the low unit variety and the emphasis on mass over class kind of spoils it.

So - again ... a bit odd to say ... but .... players that love grand strategy should still play Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance - because it has more unit variety, larger maps and more meaningful terrain. Planetary Annihilation only sounds bigger by name - but the planets are at best larger Asteroids.

The only part i did like is that - in single player conquest - you explore and pick techs - but those techs sometimes felt like cheats more than research advancements.
