The remake of Resident Evil 2 succeeded and can’t be criticized for much. Converting the original game into a modern form sets the bar for all future remakes really high and shows how it should be done. [Issue#293]

Resident Evil 2 is one of the best remakes we’ve ever seen: it’s a bit different from the classical survival horror released in 1998, while still remaining true to the original game.

Resident Evil 2 blends amazing graphics, great sound design and intimidating enemies to create a nerve wrecking horror experience. Capcom didn't forget the series' roots while modernizing as well: the hallmark of a great remake.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is a triumph of clever, polished game design, and is quite possibly our favourite game in the series. It leans into terrifying close encounters more than epic action setpieces, but that’s really what the series is about, and RE2 does the terrifying perfectly. Enemies are superb, and the game boasts the best zombies in any game ever - unrelenting and mostly unstoppable, they’re just creepy. Then there’s Mr X, the game’s own Jason Voorhees, continuously stalking you throughout. We loved every moment of Resident Evil 2, and even if you know the first game inside out, you won’t know the Remake at all. If you’ve ever loved a Resident Evil game, or wished that RE7 was third-person, want to go back to RE2 and its great horror design, or just want a horror-action game… get Resident Evil 2 Remake. You won’t be disappointed.
  6. Resident Evil 2 Remake brings back the old horror and terror feel once again. It remains as faithful as its old version and merging this with new technologies, audio and visual effects successfully.

An excellent remake and a very serviceable PC port.

It makes enough changes to keep things fresh while still feeling very faithful to the original, and the shift to the more action oriented over the shoulder view doesn't make things any less tense or difficult as ammo management and avoiding unnecessary fights are still very much needed for survival. As cliche as it is to say, I honestly think this is a game that both old and new fans of Resident Evil can enjoy.

If Capcom decides to remake Resident Evil 3 as well, if it's like this one then I would be more than optimistic for it's outcome.

Resident Evil 2 turned out to be very atmospheric and interesting. The graphics are very good, a lot of gameplay chips added, and the plot is normal.

The only reason this game is not rated a 10 is that one character in the game, Mr. X, follows you as basically an unkillable boss. It builds up tension and gives you a couple scares in the beginning, but it gets really old, really quick. But do I recommend this game? YES. Expand

Resource management in hardcore mode is also mostly enjoyable (although like previous games I always end up with too many resources by the end). Visuals and atmosphere aren't quite as gorgeous as RE:Remake but otherwise the game is pretty.
Main issues, Mr X and the William are outrageously dull and annoying to deal with. Mr X is scary for a whole 3 seconds when he first shows up, after that he is just a time waster. None of the boss fights are tense, scary or challenging in a satisfying way. While these issues are fine during the first playthrough, they really hurt my motivation to finish my subsequent playthroughs, knowing these tedious affairs will be my reward for making it through the acts. Lacking boss fights has been an issue with RE games and this title doesn't rectify this unfortunately.
