It’s an ambitious, idiosyncratic game – and for me, it sits alongside gloriously broken menu-driven political strategy-thrillers of yesteryear like Sid Meier’s Covert Action and Floor 13. That said, it won’t be for everyone.
While the graphics and sound are a bit lacking, I have to say that Rogue State is a class act as far as indies go. I absolutely endorse it and can’t wait to play it more since I still haven’t successfully completed 60 turns.
Rogue State is too focused on random events and repetition. It neither educates nor entertains. [Jan 2016]
Full of irony and pretty challenging in the first hours, it slows down after the beginning phases and loses a lot of steam due to a repetitive structure.
At first Rogue State feels like anything is possible, but soon you will see that there are limits to that freedom. It is simply not layered enough to be really interesting, but we do appreciate Rogue State for trying.
