  1. This game could easily win a title for the most extensive and absurd key assignments. You’d need Jedi fingers to play the game without a gamepad. There are far too many key combinations. The result: pure chaos.

Colorful, short-lived and trivial platformer will delight the smallest of gamers only. No death sanction means no challenge and that’s boring. [Nov 2009]
  3. Disappointing controls, restricted gameplay and poor graphics are the key words of Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes.
  4. The game may be long but every level seems the same as the last, making it feel more like a repetitive endurance run than a game.

    Awful enough. [Jan 2010, p.80]
  6. It’s easier to escape death in a hyperdrive and chop twenty tons of scrap metal with a lightsaber than overcome boredom and finish Republic Heroes.
  7. This platformer based on the Star Wars cartoon TV series tries to copy the Lego game formula but gets just about everything wrong.

Gameplay can be a bit chunky but that's easily forgiven

So, if you absolutely have to play the game, it's easy to get it up and running despite the defunct GFWL, no further modding or patching required past the abovementioned file pack.

However, the question is, should you really play it? And I really think the answer is no. The game is bad. It's a kids game, which is the first problem, because the series it is based off of is more of a teens show. The game mechanics are overly dumbed down, the writing is terrible - and sure, Filoni's (or what his name is) Clone Wars aren't exactly pinnacle of writing, but this is waaaay worse. Furthermore, the game controls are simply abysmal and imprecise, the camera is almost always in the wrong place and cannot be moved, and so on.

As a last note, game looks passable, the sound is okay, though the voiceacting is of pretty questionable quality.

Overall, it's a frustrating experience, and the only recommendation I can give, is that you stay clear of this one, even if you got it in the Steam Star Wars package or whatever.

Lucas Arts was either brain dead by the time they made this game or just gave up on themselves because this game sucks. The game wasLucas Arts was either brain dead by the time they made this game or just gave up on themselves because this game sucks. The game was completely unimaginative and the characters are unbalanced (Padawan is stronger then Anakin, I swear...) and about as weak C-3PO. The environment was tiny and boring, and some maps tended to be ridiculously hard to complete. There was almost no story line but the graphics were okay. I recommend this game to the dump. Expand

I think this is an example of a small development studio taking on a large project or an example of game play technicians with not enough freedom to write anything original, or maybe even a communication problem in the development studio.

There should be another option for keyboard controls on PC. There is a check box for "use mouse" that does not work, and there are only 8 different directions the character can be made to walk in, whilst the geometry does not seem to have the same constraint. The optional control system would be to have the left and right keys cause a rotation and the forward and back keys to affect motion, however perhaps unrealistically the designer wanted more (or less) for this project.

Perhaps with another 6 months development time this game would have been the great game it had the potential to be. Also, perhaps pre-production credits should have been wasted on work instead of party time.

I really liked the cartoon and look forward to better games in the future.

The jumps are just wrong. They can't jump in the correct direction for some reason.
You would think you need to jump in a certain direction but the expected jump would be in a slightly different direction.
Enemies are no fun. You just rinse repeat endlessly the same pack over and over again. It gets boring very fast.
You get grenades and launchers but they're very limited.
