For many people out there, StarCraft represents one of the greatest PC games of all time. StarCraft: Remastered does little to dissuade that line of thought. With the new and impressive visuals and great new lighting effects, it’s an experience that is not only well worth revisiting. It’s recommended.

StarCraft: Remastered conforms to the minimal changes, introduces better graphics and online improves, but it's enough to recover successfully one of the best RTS of the all times 19 years after its launch.

Starcraft: Remastered is a great but somewhat superfluous upgrade with the original game still being supported and free to play at that. Still it´s hard to fault anyone for wanting to enjoy this versions upgraded sound and graphics since the price point is so low. Starcraft is still fantastic but the remaster it´s more of a thing for pros and nostalgia than for a new set of players.

The gameplay is exactly the same but with matchmaking and new graphics, which is all you could ask of such a classic game. Some rough edges with the new features on the release but it will be fixed soon. Also so amazing to log in and find friends from 20y ago! Expand

It isn't a remake, it is not supposed to ma the game modern or fresh. It is here to bring up all the surrounding parts, matchmaking, battle.net integration, wide screen support, etc., up to speed without changing the gameplay at all. And it does that, perfectly. The game is exactly as it was almost twenty years ago now in terms of gameplay, but it works on my new Windows 10 machine on my 16:9 monitor after starting it up from the Battle.net/Blizzard Launcher.

For those that want to experience modern RTS, StarCraft II is better than ever. It has a vibrant online community and isn't going anywhere. This remaster is not for them. It is for those that want to experience nostalgia, or for those that want to scratch the competitive itch that only BW ever could, for those that want to see Flash/Jaedong/Bisu/Stork continue their competitive careers and the game of their choice to continue being supported.

And for those that want both (e.g. me), both games are now on the same launcher, so that's pretty damn great.

Blizzard deserve an "A", kept the same gameplay, same environment, but starcraft 2 graphics for just 15 Euros, thats really cheap for a game with this fame (some DLCs are more expensive than that) and if you are not a English speakers (my case) you have a classic game in your mother language, awesome!!! 10/10

It's just a big patch that brings ladder to the game, support for the modern operating system, and new high-resolution texture pack that some may find it rather distracting than the original's simplistic graphic. I don't have any problems with them keeping the original mechanics, bugs (or features depending whom you talk to). However, it is not an excuse to keep the 1998 poor online netcode. It's extremely laggy on 8 players map and you always have to use extra high latency setting. Some bugs that should really be addressed on a 2D 2017 game are still there like the constant crashing to desktop on extremely large fights or units that simply stop attacking like Valkyrie because there are too many sprites on the map. Also, custom Multiplayer maps do take a long time to download despite being like 10 mbps in size.

Ultimately, it does seem like this remastered version is an attempt to revive its eSport scene as the focus on graphics and observer feature will surely improve viewing experience. However, it's a bit of letdown for average or casual players who expect a little bit more polish from this.

This is just a review for its remastered version. The original broodwar game was a legend at its era.

Does this game have a great legacy?

    Yes.

    Is it great today?

    Mechanic-wise, it's been greatly surpassed by SC2.

So what does a remaster have to offer?

A lesser version of SC2 (SC1), now with HD visuals. That aren't even "good", just "HD". Online matchmaking is for 1v1 only, the custom game finder is a mess. There will be feature creep in time to iron out some of the feature issues I'm sure, but at the core, this is just an older version of SC2. Which is like putting your smartphone on the shelf to try a rotary that just got a fresh coat of paint. It's still old tech you've already consumed before moving onto bigger and better things.

If you're going to remake a game like Starcraft, you need to do it well. This seems incredibly lazily done and it looks almost exactly the same. The critic reviews are inexplicably high.
