If you like the idea of a somewhat structured building game in a primitive setting, this might be worth having a look at. It sounds nice, it looks pretty enough and it’s enjoyable enough to play… but it’s not quite as “open world” or free form as you might hope.
Tribe: Primitive Builder is a relaxing adventure of construction and automation, and while the map could stand to be cut down to at least half its size, it’s surprisingly easy to get lost in the flow of completing goals one after the other as the hours drift away.
Tribe: Primitive Builder is a bland builder at best. The story does nothing but bog down the building mechanics, and even then, they are not presented in a way that is appealing.
At first I think: yes this is a nice, big and deep game. But after some hours I realised it is shallow and boring.
What I like:
- Easy building
- Easy gathering of stuff
- Workermanagement
- Building, crafting etc.
- Big area
- No bugs, when you fall in the lava, your stuff is on a safe spot right next to the 'wrong area'.
- You really need to plan your thirst and sleep, otherwise you have a big problem
What I don't like
- A lot of walking... Over and over again, especially when you did not unlock the fast travel yet.
- Empty world, yes there are different plants etc. but not so much animals.
- Hunting is boring, running after a rabbit or something till it stops and then poking with a spear is boring.
- You need to gather a lot of materials, that is a lot of clicking
- Automation but with a lot of manuel steps...
- To unlock things is just crazy with the amount of materials you need
- No personal upgrades
- Walking from A to B and back again, just to make it a long game... And you know what? If you are lucky the person you need to find is walking some extra miles more away from you...
Conclusion:
There is a good base, but it is the whole time the same. It is not a bad game, it does nothing really wrong. But somehow it does not feel special or interesting. I wanted more variation. More upgrades, more the feeling that you are rebuilding villages and helping them. Now it feels like a microwave meal. Not bad, but it could have been better and fresher.
