After playing so many shooters in recent years, Thieves in Time’s old-school platforming is a breath of fresh air. While it doesn’t innovate, its subtle craftsmanship and varied gameplay reasserts what we’ve always known: This genre still has something important to add to the game industry. I hope this game meets with the success it deserves.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is an excellent platformer/stealth hybrid, just like its predecessors, and something long-time fans of the series will love, but newcomers may be better off picking up the HD trilogy since it doesn’t do all that much new and gives you far more value for your money.

Sly Cooper's last is a solid adventure. Thieves in Time is a finely crafted game and a funny one to play.

It does so many things right and harkens back to a different time in gaming while modernizing the experience for a new generation. It may not wow you like some of the best PlayStation exclusives have in the past, but needless to say, the wait for a continuation of the Sly saga was officially worth it.

There are occasional stumbles, but Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is another good entry in the platforming series.

Despite the constant feeling of déjà vu, there’s a lot of gameplay here. The entire adventure will take around 10-15 hours to finish, never mind hunting down all of the hidden secrets and trying to chase after that ever-elusive Platinum trophy. And its hard not to fall back into Sly’s world – it’s familiar, safe, like an old blanket.

When it comes right down to it, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is a competent platformer that rests on the laurels its namesake and plays it far too safe. That said, hardcore fans will find plenty to love solely because it's more Sly. So if pretty art and average platforming sounds worth the price of admission, who am I to stop you?

This new team really did a good job with sly cooper and his friends. We are still stuck on a cliff hanger but I hope we can come back from it. The game is one of the best in the entries and it lives up to franchise. The story and the way the game plays is excellent ! A great sly cooper game. Expand

At its core, the Sly Cooper games are platformers, but the last few installments have strayed towards action-adventure. And Sky Cooper:At its core, the Sly Cooper games are platformers, but the last few installments have strayed towards action-adventure. And Sky Cooper: Thieves in Time captures that perfectly. Developer Sanzaru Games didn't develop the original three PS2 Sly games, but they definitely know what they are doing. From the beautiful cel shaded graphics to the fluid animations, Sly Cooper is a PS3/Vita title that deserves more credit than it receives. Along with Jak and Ratchet, Sly was part of Sony's "Big 3" of gaming during the PS2 days. Of those three, Sly was probably the most deservent of a sequel, and now after his eight year absence from the gaming scene, he is getting one that is worthy of Sucker Punch's originals. And with a cliffhanging ending, this may not be the last time we see Sly Cooper, the master thief, in action. Expand

Sanzaru hasHave you ever wanted to reply the days of old, when platforming, creative stories and lovable characters dominated the market? Sanzaru has created what feels like a true blast from the past experience, taking a bold step to say no to demands of modern gamers, and instead embraced the idea of giving fans EXACTLY what they wanted. The environments are gorgeous, with massive sizes, very well hidden treasure, bottle, and mask locations, and a soundtrack that fits the environments perfectly. The new graphics have allowed for clean and vibrant locations. The dialogue is funny, and the story, with it's take on meeting ancestors and traveling in time, is very capable of being engaging and memorable, and is kept fresh with clever mini games, funny references and Easter Eggs, adorable cut-scenes made up of well made animations, and the boss battles, which are, gasp, are actually challenging and fun. The only complaint from me, is that it is SHORT. Each location will barely have enough missions to last more than a few hours. This is more than fixed with many secrets to find, as well as the large price reduction to $40. The return of Sly and his Gang are sure to bring nostalgic feelings to anyone who enjoyed the past games, and bring back the classic platformer genras creativity and lighthearted feel in a market saturated with dark stories and shooters on every corner. I have played Sly 2 and 3 and those two games were pretty good I must say. The voice acting is very good and the characters and their connections to other characters are very well done in those 2 games. Thieves in Time is no difference. The voice acting is marvelous and the characters look spectacular. The art style is different from the last 3 games, but it gives a nice new touch to the game. The fighting mechanics are pretty simple, but enjoyable. It's always fun engaging in combat when you play as Carmelita or Sly, for example. Althou, I think Sly has the most unique play style. Murray and Carmelita feel a bit genereic, but they're still pretty damn fun to play as. The ancestors of Sly are pretty much the same as Sly is, with a few extra moves and whatnot, but they are still funny to play as. The animations and graphics look good, and the cel shaded graphics really do their job. I actually think the cartoonish style fits these games a lot more than some crazy Call of Duty graphics. The music is also extremely good. The composer of this game is a "god", so to say. The music is outstanding! The story is well written and chronological. There aren't many loop holes or some bizarre things, which makes the story a solid package. There are a few rants too. The loading screens. They're pretty long and a bit frustrating. But, they load the whole world at one shot so I quess that's the price you have to pay. The camera is alright, but it can a bit annoying at times. All in all, this game is very solid and entertaining. A little break from those gory shooters doesn't hurt you. Give this game a shot. You won't be disappointed. Expand

In general, game is not very different from the Sucker Punch trilogy, both in gameplay and plot, there is also a lot of boring long briefings between missions, in the end I could not watch it all and skipped these.

    That's a worthy sequel.

Developers ruined the plot and characters, you have less gadgets and abilities than in trilogy. Without these things I can't play this game and enjoy non-stop, but it's playable. Getting the platinum was some challenge, but I did it. Because of game flaws I spent there less time than in trilogy. Expand

The story is poorly written, the familiar characters are no longer the same characters we knew in the original games, some of the characterThe story is poorly written, the familiar characters are no longer the same characters we knew in the original games, some of the character designs are just awful (like Carmelita and Murray + some guards), weak / bad villains, clumsy controls, operations are designed lazily, in places poor dialogue, humor is quite too much (and most of the humor doesn’t just work or are otherwise but bad) and a bad / anticlimatic ending.
I have a lot more to say about this game, but otherwise my review would be way too long.
Minus yet, this game doesn’t have Murray’s The Ball Form ability.
I’ve never liked time travel. Time travel makes no sense to me and it doesn’t seem to belong in the Sly universe at all. Too bad there was no more going from the main menu directly to the game, it was a matter of Sly games.
I doesn’t like Thieves in time 2d animation cutscenes, I don’t like their art style (the original games with animatio cutscenes were, I think, much more personal, fun, pretty and more detailed). I think Thieves in Time’s cutscene animations are too humorous.
And I think Sly’s ancestors could have been kept in the shadows / unknown. I liked the original trilogy that the ancestors weren’t told everything and was partly mysterious, and that made Sly’s ancestors much more interesting, and in this game they had been made full of idiots / overwhelmed.

But I still hope for a new Sly game, but I wish Sucker Punch would do it, or some other studio who understands what made the original trilogy so great. Sly spin off would be a good idea (a spin off that ranks between Sly 1 and Sly 2, + at the same time telling the Cooper gang about the Istanbul gig that Murray mentioned in Sly 2, Episode 7, Battle Club mission). Or completely forget about Thieves in timen and make Sly 4 completely rebuild + throw the time travel thing away, and Sly and his partners stay on their own time.
