Chaos on Deponia continues the beautiful story of Deponia. The game brings nothing new to the genre, however it has great and funny characters, nice riddles and a fantastic atmosphere. Chaos on Deponia shows how an adventure game should be made.
It is exactly what we expected: a classic graphic adventure, continuing the trilogy and improving everything we saw in the first episode. We really miss having it localized –into Spanish in our case– but still is a great choice we're sure you'll enjoy.
This title, as well as all the other ones in the saga share a handful of characteristics that make them the best modern-era point-and-click games, they are:
-A protagonist which is both very charming and a complete idiot
-Incredibly gorgeous artwork
-Very good plot (although I gotta say the end of the whole saga is rather dissapointing)
-Beautifully crafted puzzles which are very satisfying to complete
-Very well-made character personalities (Lottie, Toni, Bozo, Cletus and McChronicle to name just a few)
-Really good ambientation, both in the post-apocalyptic Deponia as in the utopic Elysium
-Rufus and Goal make a pretty silly and somewhat adorable couple
I honestly find no way in which any human being could play Deponia and not enjoy it other than if they dislike point-and-click adventure games as a whole.
One of my favorite classical Point’n’Click adventures. I’m a long time adventure player and people calling the puzzles of this game illogical or too hard probably have never touched Lucas Arts classics like Monkey Island or Grim Fandango.
Quite on the contrary the puzzles are logical, cleverly implemented and always have a reasonable solution as long as you pay attention. If you need a walkthrough it’s very probably because you overread, overheard or overlooked something. On top of the stellar puzzle design the world of Deponia is incredibly charming, funny and the game length is great for a point and click adventure.
In that vein I was really shocked to read from another 10 star (!) reviewer he “wouldn’t have paid $20 for this game". With this attitude creeping in everywhere - If the price of 2 movie tickets for 10+ hours of excellent, enjoyable gaming time is already too much for many (despite giving the game top score) - it’s no wonder that Daedalic (as of February 2018) and many others have stopped developing point and click adventure games altogether and even we PC players more and more get cursed with microtransactions and free 2 play cr@p.
Chaos on Deponia is a great entry in the Deponia trilogy. It manages to address most of the issues of its predecessor while it connects wonderfully with it and brilliantly offers a fresh experience to the player.
The puzzles are tough enough that you probably won't figure them out right away, but they're not so tough that they'll stump you for days at a time, either. For me, that's exactly where I want the difficulty of an adventure to be, and combined with the humor of the game, it makes Chaos on Deponia an easy game to recommend.
Chaos on Deponia is too similar to the first episode and too limited to its classic structure to get a better score. A good adventure, but it lacks in pace and brilliance.
It's those games that I have to recommend to you
Those that make you enjoy a good story and fabulous characters
Listen to my recommendation and play the Deponia saga!
Chaos on Deponia starts right after the end of first part of Deponian trilogy following Rufus' new attempts to get to Elysium. It lets you explore a new part of Deponia (though it is rather small) and introduces a bunch of new colorful characters (O, Donna, your dim-witted giggles melt my heart!).
Like previous game, Chaos on Deponia looks absolutely fantastic and is really funny. But also like previous game it contains a lot of bugs, most of which are the same as in the original Deponia. They are not game breaking (though some Steam achievements do not work), but it really saddens me to see that Daedalic still doesn't care to fix them.
Overall it is fun game but besides game bugs it contains some other drawbacks. It is really short and ends abruptly only to tell you to wait for the third part to see the end of the story. Some people will find various jokes offensive because of animal cruelty and the main protagonist is still a **** which makes it really hard to sympathize and root for him.
But in the end, Chaos on Deponia is really funny quest with great characters, amazing graphics and interesting story.
The first game was great, not a bestseller but 7-8 from 10. Unique atmosphere with jokes made the first game really fun to play. For some reason dev`s decided to change only decorations and this game only pretends to be fun. Yes, for the first time the way the main character speaks and deals with everything is funny, however we have seen all of this in the first chapter. Killing the little bird at the beginning of this game is not. Yes, I know that we will be able to give it a second life later on. All this game looks like dev`s wants more money and have no ideas how to create a new catchable story, thus they more and more reuse the mechanics from the first game. When the first game ended I wanted more, I bought this and I`m willing never going to know how crappy and poorly it`s made.
worsened compared to the first, chaotic situation, inconsistent, annoying, completely unbalanced. always constant graphics and this is ok but the puzzles are often inconsistent.
Hello everyone, I am hunka bunka Gordoth Enodious, a foul fiend from the heights of heaven who finds himself talking about Chaos on Deponia on this day, and, alas, that brings me no great joy.
I am a gameplay designer and a writer so I got the credentials to talk **** Most of the content in this review is copy pasted from the previous Deponia's review.
Gameplay
Chaos on Deponia's gameplay is the exact same as Deponia’s gameplay - as in, it is very simple in concept - you just click. However, the fact that one needs to click is not indicative of the way the game is played - it is not a game for the reptile brain, it is a game for the other type of brain - the smart one. You need to utilize your smarts, which, let's face it, will not be enough to deal with some of the unreasonably complicated puzzles found within, and so you will look up a guide, which is a 100% legitimate way of playing through, and you can not tell me otherwise.
However, there might be some galaxy-brained sodomites among you who will throw themselves at this and try to bash their heads against the walls - enjoy it, and then suffer for it. The playtime I have on my account is that large, because I played it around 5 times, to get all the achievements. It would be that great if I had not used some guides to make the experience more pleasant. 2/3
Presentation
The game looks very nice. Due to the fact that its appearance is as stylized as some of the unmentionable sources of entertainment, originating in Japan, I am left pleased by the cartoony appearance of the characters. It is interesting how the characters seem to POP from the background, due to the fact that the lines outlining them are much thicker than those of the scenery, but that is excusable and makes it easier to spot important people.
The sound effects are passable, the music is decent enough, but it becomes boring very quickly. The voice acting is good, but the animations are really, really distracting. There are songs intertwined with the beginning of every act, but they really ripped me out of the experience and completely broke my immersion. The singing was not that good either, nor was the text interesting, as a norm. There were outliers.
The art is the one thing I can not really complain about, so kudos to whoever worked on it. Daedalic, stick to illustrations and world building! 2/3
Story
The story of Chaos on Deponia is, arguably, even worse than the story in Deponia. The characters are unlikable, so much so that I found myself FORCING myself to FORCE my hand to click so that I would go on. The issue is, still, even worse in future installments, due to the fact that there was no character development from the previous game.
The main character is Rufus, an entitled, rude, unwashed, selfish and egotistical ****, the exact same idiot from the last game! And the story takes place literally minutes after the events described in Deponia, or at least so it seems - although it's muddied up because who cares about consistency, am I right?
Rufus goes ahead and breaks into the lift, upon which Goal and Cletus are situated, and ends up ruining everything that could have been interpreted, with a large amount of leeway, as progress in the story and character growth. Cletus disappears, Goal gets messed up, and Rufus is just alright.
Then the most ridiculous plot-point occurs, and I will spoil it as it happens just at the start of the game - Goal’s consciousness is split into three different people because Rufus decided to buy himself lollipops instead of buying the cartridges he was TOLD TO BUY. On top of that, even if the player tries to buy the right type of cartridge, THE GAME TAKES AWAY THEIR ABILITY TO PICK AND JUST RUINS THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE FROM THE GET GO!
In any case, the only remotely interesting thing was the world. Why doesn’t the Floating Black Market get destroyed by the Organon, seeing as it is quite large and could, probably, be seen from Elysium? Why do Elysians still have no noses?
All these questions, and more, are NOT answered in this game. Very unsatisfying. Very, very sad. On top of that, the horrible plot makes me want to poke my eyes out. 0/3
Legendary Point
Does this game, that is really just a clicking simulator with a disgusting story, get the Legendary Point? Heck no. I would rather give my Legendary Point, my ONE and ONLY gift to any game, to a hentai game, because then I'd see **** This "sorry excuse of a" game did not spark my interest enough, it did not stick with me and make me think, nor did it inspire me. The only thing I thought about was how horrible Rufus and the stupid plot-points were, how poorly written the characters felt, and how dissatisfying it was to beat the game only to achieve... Conclusion
5/10. It's just an average game, but not one I would recommend.

SummaryEmbark on round 2. CoD promises to be even crazier than the first game and quickly puts the player under its spell. After the events on Deponia, it appears that Rufus came to his senses.
