Fade to Silence is a survival horror RPG simulator, which is maybe too real for its own good. Yes, the idea of living a life in harsh environment and leading a group against the monsters and the weather sounds great for a game, but we don`t think many fans of horror or simulation genre will have patience and commitment to play this game as long as it should be played.
This game was a pleasant surprise. Fade to silence is an excellent survival and a little bit of horror game with good atmosphere and story. It has also co-op. Even if you are not a survival or a horror fan it is highly likely that you are going to like this game.
Got it on ps+. OK-ish game in easy mode. Farming, crafting, base building, souls movesets. I wouldn't go near the 'normal' mode with the absence of proper healing items. As poor as it is, they couldve sold it for 20bucks and get good ratings with an xp system. But they chose to try sweep it under the rogue/souls rug and sell it for more. Ofc it got lynched. Can provide some fun for a few days
Despite a rather slow start and a "Dark Souls-like" combat system that also disappoints on the distance, the post-apocalyptic journey of Black Forest Games, at the crossroads between the action-adventure and the management, demonstrates qualities that could be tempting to lovers of the tough and uncompromising challenge.
Fade to Silence is a true survival game that I want to like a lot more than I do. A passionate team has cooked up some tasty scraps in this frozen hell, but I’m forced to share the meal with irritating company. The ideas are great in theory, but too many elements end up in the realm of mediocrity. Nothing ruins the game, though, yet it is also prevented from being something more. The end result is a survival experience that’s simply enjoyable, but I can’t commend it beyond that.
I still can't find myself comfortable within the genre but at least Fade to Silence offers people like me a foothold. Despite a more casual experience and some welcome co-op, combat feels sluggish and shallow. The world is wonderfully bleak but the storytelling fails to capitalise on the setting. There's some intriguing systems at work here but they don't combine in a way I can enjoy.
Fade to Silence is an unremarkable and slow slog for survival through a wintry post-apocalypse. Technical problems, underdeveloped gameplay systems, and a confused tone erode away most of the enjoyment in a setting that showed potential.
Something about the survival genre has taken all those brilliant ingredients and spat out a failure of a meal, however, and that's an depressing reflection on the entire genre.
The game has a lot of things I like: base building, gathering resources to craft better gear and upgrade your camp, recruiting followers, etc. It can give you a slight sense of accomplishment. However, it's marred by terrible graphics, constant bugs and glitches, annoying traversal of the environment and underwhelming combat. Had this game been developed by a better studio with a better budget, it could've been decent. I'd say if the frame rate didn't drop constantly (especially when you're in your camp) and if it didn't crash so often, I'd bump my score up to a 7/10. I really want to like this game. I find some of the gameplay interesting and I think it has some potential, but the fact that all you do in this game is explore the environment and occasionally have to attack an enemy with the same moves over and over again, it leads to a lackluster experience that had the combat been more engaging, the traversal of the environment more interesting and the technical glitches remedied, would've made this a better title than it is.
Also, the story needs a lot of work. You basically learn everything about the state of the world and your past in flashbacks whenever you rest and, personally, I find that a lazy way to execute the story. There's no way to learn about the world through exploration, which is how a title like this should work, in my opinion. That way you have more of an incentive to travel and explore. Otherwise, what's the point? Sure, you need to explore to gather materials for your camp and followers, but nothing binds the player to the story. This wouldn't be a problem if the sole purpose of the game was only to survive, but they added a story that has no depth beyond what you learn from these incoherent flashbacks.
All in all, what keeps me playing this title is the goal of crafting better equipment and building up my camp and stockpiling resources. Otherwise, there is no real reason to continue past that. No gripping story, no amazing combat and traversal through the world. Nothing but monotonous grinding, which if you enjoy the satisfaction of growing your little society in the wilderness is the only reason to play this game.
As soon as I saw the difficulty options I thought here we go again with another developer who is more interested in punishing you rather than letting you enjoy a game. Horrible gameplay, dialogue. I'm not looking for hand holding but other survival games have such a better introduction to their world. Sadly another dissapointment.
