Furi kicked my ass, and I loved it. There was laughter, there were tears, but most of all, there was a goddamned great game. The combat is extremely taxing, but fair, and the narrative is surprisingly rewarding. If you’re a masochist, Furi is the game you’ve been waiting for.

Furi is a brilliant, fast-paced action game that combines elements from the classic Japanese bullet-hell shooters. The combat system is precise, the soundtrack epic and the engine runs flawlessly pretty much always.

Furi is addictive and challenging, a game that push you to the limit but makes you feel rewarded. If you want to test your skills, Furi deserves a chance.

FURI is a great game with it's hardcore gameplay, the great electro music OST, and its nice graphics style. If you hate try 'n' die games, and value great storyline and exploration, you might be better off looking elsewhere.

Furi is an unusual hack and slash about killing bosses. Is it funny? Yes, though is far from a perfect game.

Furi is going to find its audience, that much is certain, but the real shame here is that with a couple of tweaks, that audience could have wound up being far larger than what it likely will be.

Furi gameplay feels nice because of it's quite innovative because the way you change from gun play to combat feels so good and when you make a sweet dash and slash the boss's throat , you will really feel like a true BOSS!

The format is very similar to Shadow of the Colossus, You make short travels to fight bosses, no customization, no loot, no leveling, just the basic controls and your skill. The reviewers calling it "cheap" probably just don't have the patience for the fights. The windows for dodging and deflecting are very small but doable. Some of them can feel very frustrating, but I felt great every time I learned to overcome the next boss' patterns and techniques. The story is almost non-existent and the graphics aren't for everyone, but the gameplay was difficult, fast, and fun. Expand

Unlike the Dark Souls series, Furi's difficulty kicks your ass, but with each failure you actually feel like you're learning about the enemyUnlike the Dark Souls series, Furi's difficulty kicks your ass, but with each failure you actually feel like you're learning about the enemy and with just a few tries you beat them and are elated.

There are a couple problems with the game, however.

The downtime between fights is pretty much just a slow walking simulator with the camera changing angles constantly and unless you have auto-walk on (there are zero indicators telling you how to use/enable or that there even is an auto-walk) or are only moving in a straight line, you'll find yourself turning 180 degrees and switching the camera back sometimes. When you just want to get to the next fight, the 5 minutes of walking between the bosses is super tedious.

The story, though, is quite interesting, even if the guy that does all the talking tells you that you're not alone, yet never helps you in combat.

The developer of this game definitely seems like the type of player that excels at this type of game and then shoves their success in the faces of those that aren't so good, or just not AS good. The type that uses the catchphrase "git gud". The game has an "easy" difficulty that when selected fully disables all achievements/trophies, leaves the name of the game mode on the screen at all times to let you know that you are inferior, and, really, isn't all that much easier. They definitely don't want you playing on that difficulty level and it doesn't really make sense why they have it in the game at all.

There is a lag on some of your actions (mainly the dash) that can be extremely frustrating when you try to dash at the last minute, but it doesn't work due to having to wait a 4th or 5th of a second after hitting the button/key to actually dash. I'm pretty sure this is by design to up the difficulty, but it feels more like the controls are just unresponsive and that's really bad for a fast-paced platformer like Furi.

Overall, I enjoy the game. I had multiple mini-rage quits but always came back with a fire in my belly, knowing that I can overcome my failures and move on. I enjoyed the story, but hated the walking simulator and wished the controls were more responsive. The bosses were unique and challenging, but due to the unresponsive controls, I wasn't able to fully appreciate them and their abilities.
