EA hasn't birthed a whole new concept this year, but the game doesn't break what has been working all this time, even if it comes at the cost of feeling stale to series veterans.

Considering that this could be the closest thing we see to "normal" football for a long time, Madden NFL 21 works. However, I can't shake the feeling that more could be done. Some things feel practically untouched. The create-a-player faces are still weird. Why can there be such a discrepancy in head sizes? Why can't I seem to port over the player I created in Face of the Franchise into a regular roster or at least have him available in regular create-a-player? The array of quarterback throwing motions still seems limited, and it pales in comparison to the way players in other sports games are so heavily signaturized. I still feel there's plenty of work to be done with this franchise, and that so-called "next level" we keep looking for can be reached. For now, I might tighten up my Yard skills, see what new decisions I can make in a new career mode, and beef up on my RPO mastery while I hope for more in next year's Madden outing.

With all its small improvements and a lot of content to make, Madden 21 offers a slightly better package than in previous years. However, it does not finish kicking the board or revolutionizing its mechanics; we're still waiting for a football game to blow us away.

Madden NFL 21 is a strange beast. It is the same fun football experience that millions of players have come to love, yet I still expected a little more from it. While it features refined gameplay and fun game modes, its lackluster story mode and plethora of graphical glitches don’t reflect what a game releasing this year should look like. The online modes will keep you playing through various simulation and customizable options, but most of this is just more of the same in comparison to what has already been delivered. If you’re a seasoned Madden fan looking for your yearly fix of football goodness, I doubt Madden NFL 21 will disappoint you, but that doesn’t mean it’s a flawless experience.

Madden NFL 21 is a mix of missed opportunities. While it’s the best-looking version we’ve seen to date, EA Tiburon seems to have swayed the game in a different direction with new modes that keep you busy rather than engaged. The Yard is a mode that nobody asked for, and even if worth a shot, ended up shortsighted in its execution. Face of the Franchise continues to improve, but the fact an entire game has to be played on both sides of the ball just to extend the life of the mode is aggravating. Load times and transitions seem to be slow and it makes going through the fluff of MUT annoying. While the marketing has changed as the game lacks that true NFL feel, I do think the introductions are cool. The team also removed stats before starting a game. There are still legacy issues and bugs including Cam Newton being introduced as the Panthers quarterback even though it’s stated he’s on the Patriots. The gameplay is faster and the running game is more overpowered and that goes along with Superstar X-Factor 2.0. It’s hard to say where the franchise stands now in what it’s trying to accomplish with Madden NFL 21, but hopefully a new generation will bring a new experience.

It'll take years for Madden to truly become a standout sports game again, as the mediocrity has gone on for too long for massive change to happen overnight, but Madden 21 is a promising step in the right direction.

Madden NFL 21 is another blatant recycling of last year’s edition of the „simulation“ of the American football. Sadly, most of the modes remained the same. Gameplay received a few minor tweaks, and in the end it still persists as a cash grab not worth anybody’s time.

It is what the cool kids do. Thus, 885 people have chosen to leave a negative review while those of us who enjoy the game just kind of play and chill out a little bit. The game is fine. MUT has simplified the UI and the solos in order to make the completion of them feel possible. In the past, they had a situation where there were hundreds of solos and you felt buried in them. The Yard is a forward-thinking and fun arcade mode built by the same team that built Superstar KO. You could argue that The Yard makes this worth purchasing by itself. I have not played the story mode or franchise mode. Other people reviewed those though. In general, man defense and zone defense feel fine to me. I will say that it is hard to review the game on August 30 because you need to run through a cycle of people with websites finding the holes in the coding and exploiting them. Ultimately, an iteration of Madden is judged by how well a dev team does this. Considering that this game was developed with almost everyone working from home (Tiburon is in Orlando, FL), it is hard to say they didn't do a good job. Expand

The AI is brainless and you will quickly notice the zone coverages are broken completely. They nerfed defense and usering LBs so that no matter how hard you press the triangle button you can’t get them to jump. They all feel like they run in slow motion and have no brain when the ball gets thrown. Honestly the franchise mode is COMPLETELY untouched. I’m honestly disgusted with this company and won’t be playing it. I don’t recommend ANYONE purchase it. Expand
