    Athletic and agile, sneaky and cunning. Driven by the desire to once again hold in his hands what he lost, Gollum is one of the most fascinating characters in the world of The Lord of the Rings.

    He has seen things that others can not imagine, he has survived things that others would not dare mention. Torn by his split personality, he can be vicious and villainous as Gollum, but social and cautious as Sméagol.
    While being vital to the story by J.R.R. Tolkien, many parts of Gollum's quest have not been told in detail yet. In The Lord of the Rings: Gollum you get to experience this story. From his time as a slave below the Dark Tower to his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood.

    Use stealth, agility and cunning to survive and overcome what lies ahead. Climb, leap and grapple your way past dangers or into advantageous spots.

    While Gollum might not be a fighter, it is not unlike him to assassinate a careless enemy when the chance presents itself or dispose of them in more creative and villainous ways.

    Just like Gollum, I'm a bit split. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum features a great story that adds to the lore, along with a terrific stealth system, but it misses the mark in other areas. A finicky and redundant platforming system, mixed with a dialogue system that lacks bite makes for a combination that drags the rest down. Gollum is always so close to The Ring, but ever so far.

    The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a game commendable for Daedalic's effort to tell a wholly original story in Middle-earth by mixing stealth and platforming mechanics, but it falls apart on almost all sides: imprecise controls, terrible AI, bland narrative , outdated level design and graphics from another generation.

    Much like the namesake character himself, The Lord of The Rings: Gollum couldn't be saved from what it became. Frustrating platforming coupled with boring gameplay and cheap ways to die make any experience hard to play. Unfortunately, the intriguing setting and lore exploration can't come close to overshadowing the game's fundamental issues.

    The Lord of the Rings: Gollum doesn’t do anything fun or interesting like similar (better) games like A Plague Tale: Innocence and Requiem. It’s hard to say if even the most loyal Lord of the Rings fans would actually find something worthwhile here. Considering good Lord of the Rings games exist, this one feels incredibly out of place.

    As if Gollum hasn't had his fair share of suffering, Daedalic Entertainment has decided that we have to share some more with him. Unfortunately, a potentially intriguing angle of storytelling and an ever-interesting world this time falls short in every sense imaginable - crashes that occur more often than you can count, unpolished gameplay, inconsistent voice acting and storytelling... Sadly, there are a few things more precious than your time - the time you could spend elsewhere, not playing a game that has lost its direction and, unfortunately, turned out plain bad.

    What makes Gollum stand out is that most other developers and publishers then use their creative teams to try and hide the crass cynicism and capitalism. Daedalic didn’t bother with Gollum. This game represents the games industry with its mask off.

    I am absolutely loving this game, it features one of the most original stories in the LoTR franchise and the gameplay is both fun andI am absolutely loving this game, it features one of the most original stories in the LoTR franchise and the gameplay is both fun and exciting. Sure, there are some bugs here and there but they will be patched quickly enough, Daedalic isn't the first studio to fall victim of a greedy publisher setting an unreasonable deadline and it won't be the last. However this is a genuinely fantastic game that will delight TRUE fans of the LoTR franchise and leave the haters, losers and fair-weather "fans" by the wayside as they cry and whine about things like "Gollum is ugly" (oh really? was Timothée Chalamet not available for the role?) and "the graphics are bad" (tell me, how were the "graphics" in the original JRR Tolkien novels again?) despite not having even played the game. Give it a chance and you too, like myself, might find yourself cradling the PS5 disc as you roll around half-naked around the house in delight eating raw fish and saying "my preciousss" in much the same manner as Gollum™ himself (from the movie)… Expand

With average by-the-books platforming and stealth gameplay, there actually is a thoughtful and engaging story at the heart of Gollum.     The worst part is that they officially released marketing footage and photos that were abysmal. The game looked awful even then. And somehow in the actual game, it got 10x worse. Every studio involved with this game is inept.

    I got my refund, so I'm all good. But I'd like it if nobody else gave these people a cent.    … Expand

    DO NOT BUY!!!!! If you want to play an excellent LOTR game i highly recommend Shadow of Mordor and War respectively. Also Gollum in War isDO NOT BUY!!!!! Also Gollum in War is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than this and he's only an NPC.Luckily i haven't bought Gollum cause i was very sceptical. Another negative thing is that if you want to hear the Elvish language you have to buy the DLC. The game shouldn't exist in my opinion and it reminds me a game from the 2004 - 2009 era.The devs made this game because there's a huge fan base on LOTR that they'll buy anything they throw at them which they hoped it sold very well. The game's overwhelming negativity made me replay the Shadow series.… Expand
