Polygoneer is a hyper-simple 2D score attack arcade game. It is a very “pure” experience; you control a little shooter that spins in the center of the screen, and must shoot shapes as they come in towards you. The shapes can be in one of three colors – red, blue, or green – and depending on what color they are, you have to shoot the right color of your gun to kill them.
This game reminds me of Super Hexagon in that it is a super-simple game which is mostly just about pure reflex. That being said, it is nowhere near as hard as Super Hexagon is, and you will likely complete the entire game in less than an hour. That’s not really a bad thing; the game’s core mechanics are very simple, after all, and probably would get boring over time.
Unfortunately, I didn’t really feel like the game really pushed me to my limits, though; the gameplay felt a bit bland and I wasn’t really left with a strong feeling of accomplishment upon finishing the game.
Overall, I can’t really recommend this; while it is a pure arcade experience, and isn’t BAD per se, it isn’t really very good, either. It just kind of is. I’d recommend Super Hexagon over this.
Polygoneer' belongs to that category of games that appear out of nowhere in your Steam library, that you try without much conviction or interest, that amaze you for a moment by the superficiality and repetitiveness of its gameplay, and that you finish in less than 30 minutes without ever trying it again afterwards. The only notable advantage is that completing this game allows us to easily acquire about forty achievements that you can quickly showcase on your profile.
There is another advantage to this game: within 30 minutes you have enough time to get bored with the gameplay before finishing it completely. The 'hell' level is interesting because it offers a little more challenge after the game is over.
SummaryPolygoneer is an arcade reflex based game. You should defend yourself from polygonal enemies that come from all sides, hitting them with the right color shot, one miss and its the end.
