Morphite is a game that takes its time to get your comfortable with exploring and playing it, as long as you also take the time to slow down and appreciate what you’re given. By no means is Morphite an action packed adventure, but it is definitely an interesting and worthwhile one.

Morphite is impossible to play without thinking about No Man's Sky, but it is by no means a mere imitation. Morphite has its own ideas and despite some minor faults, executes them very well.

Take this game for what it is, not what it is inevitably become compared to and you'll have an engaging story and pleasant exploration-based experience - for the most part. During your travels it's really up to you how much you want to discover, catalogue and upgrade. Morphite isn't a bad little first-person adventure but thrill seekers looking for a stop gap before Metroid Prime 4 could end up feeling short changed; rather than cause your pulse to race this jaunt through the uncharted regions of the universe is quite laid back and curiously lacking in excitement. It ranks as an enjoyable - if sometimes pedestrian - adventure that you will ultimately get as much out of as you are willing to put in, but we fear a great many players will simply lose interest.

Morphite is a space exploration adventure that does well in creating the feeling that you’re visiting its many alien worlds. With a unique low poly style, it falls short for having poor and inconsistent combat. Those that can overlook this will find a deep and enjoyable journey.

While it has all the makings of a long-lasting space adventure, Morphite lacks any real emotion in the story it tries to tell, while lacking the denizens to populate the various planets found within. Everything feels quite empty and lifeless, made further haunting by Myrah's need to scan everything on the planet while breaking into temples to steal the rare Morphites that turn out to be…not so rare. This feels more like a concept piece for a brand new title, and it's hard to justify this as a purchase for what it offers currently. The story is bland, the procedural worlds are even blander, and the side-quests are completely broken and poorly maintained.

There is such a thing as being too laid-back and Morphite is most certainly that. With visuals that are too basic and lacking in character, an almost sleep inducing pace, and some technical issues on Switch that can’t be ignored, there are few redeeming qualities for this utter snooze-fest.

Most of all there's a great atmosphere overall, the music is excellent and soothing and the story so far is pretty neat. The game does well what it proposes, so for me it's a high recommendation for anyone craving for a space odyssey. Expand

The game takes you on a path throughout ways of discovery and emancipates with the player’s curiosity. Scanning vegetation, scanning creatures enables a money system that you will experience in buying some fuel for your spaceship or amusingly upgrading of weapons and different estimations of what Sci-Fi survival constitutes. Primarily a game of inspired visuals and a conducting story that gives the player reasons to want to know exactly what is going on. Expand

it has a simple style and its very visually pleasing.
the gameplay is not that great, it sometimes is satisfying to kill enemies, but SOMETIMES.
the world is good, its fun to explore and scan stuff, but i sometimes find myself lost without knowing what to do. but at least there is a map that tells you where to go.
overall i would say, if you had enough money to buy this and had all the major 1st party switch games like Mario, buy this, it will keep you entertained for at least a week, but if you dont have games like mario or zelda, save up your money and dont buy this game

Did Metroid Prime and No Man's Sky have a chunky little baby?

Morphite is a first person platforming shooter, with metroidvania elements.
Did Metroid Prime and No Man's Sky have a chunky little baby?

Morphite is a first person platforming shooter, with metroidvania elements. Growing up in a space station, you play as Myrah an explorer, who has trained and is now ready leave the nest. Mr. Mason, the bearded gent who raised her sets her up with a pistol a ship and kitkat. A sassy little robocat who accompanies you on your missions and handles the day to day needs of a space explorer

Playing from a first person perspective you're tasked with scanning plant and animal life in order raise money to stock the space station. Armed with a pistol in case the animal life you are scanning gets a little too close. Which happens quite a lot, it’s great fun strolling through a new world scanning the animals, then all of a sudden one becomes aggressive and you have to quickly blast your way to survival.

With different objectives taking you to different solar systems to complete missions, soon you will begin obtaining new gear. In true metroidvania fashion, grenades help you open new sections of the map, along with a charge laser gun which is the only way to open certain doors. When moving from planet to planet you will need to upgrade your gear to withstand extreme temperatures, either very hot or very cold, collecting minerals throughout your adventure will earn you the option to upgrade your gear. Which has alot of different options to choose from, upgrade your pistols fire rate, your grenades blast radius, or your scanners scan time. Which is very helpful when trying to scan some futuristic space hornet trying to kill you.

The gameplay in Morphite feels very ok, as a good mix of platforming and shooting you notice very quickly this handles far from a AAA FPS. Moving throughout the world, aiming, shooting overall the mechanics feel a bit janky. Which you get used to and can work with during boss fights, but you lose something in the experience of exploration when feeling robbed for a slick platforming move that didn’t pan out.

Morphites art style is low poly with high stylization, when in worlds they feel small but complete. Each world has just enough variation to make it feel different from the last, however when upgrading to be able to withstand very high or very low temps, there was no visual reminder of this when in the level. The UI is a bit difficult to navigate and if you want to travel throughout the galaxy to a certain place you will have quite some trouble, not to mention stopping for fuel every planet or so, there are no markers of the solar systems so good luck trying to discern one blue dot from another or remembering some of these goofy little names.

Morphite is an interesting 3d platformer that does a lot of things but only a few of them well. With an interesting visual style and numerous planets to explore I had a great time walking through each new world, capturing a library of its wildlife. However, when it comes to it’s foundation the platforming or fps mechanics don’t feel solid enough to keep me wanting to jump back into my ship for more action.

The game is just a mess right now, and so far it doesn't look like they'll fix any of it, so I can't recommend this for anyone, sadly. Expand

Really wanted to like this game. Usually check pretty carefully on metacritic to see if a game is decent or not. Didn't like Odyssey as muchReally wanted to like this game. Usually check pretty carefully on metacritic to see if a game is decent or not. Didn't like Odyssey as much as the rest of the community so have been taking some reviews with a grain of salt. Saw this come up on a youtube top eshop games and got excited as I love metroid/scifi games. This game just does not seem finished. Mostly the controls are clunky and the side quests are not exciting. I should have researched more and would apply for a refund if I could as I never want to play this game again with all the great games there are. Expand
