Take on the role of either a young Polar Bear or a Walrus growing up and trying to survive in the wild. From eating to fighting off predators, almost every aspect of the animal’s life is presented to the player. Learning to live in this world is vital as they go from the regular dangers to the extreme threats. Experience the thrilling, interactive look at the walrus and polar bears that roam the vast world of the Arctic wilderness. The gameplay will evolve as the animal's age over eleven stages that take the player from snowy mountains, across turbulent ice sheets that are ravaged by blizzards, and into the frigid oceans that are patrolled by deadly killer whales. The stages alternate between free-roaming areas containing several mini-games to travel zones, which involve the player taking actions to get from one area to another. The travel zones could be anything from descending a cliff face from the mountains to the ice sheets below or surviving in the open ocean as a storm rages around you. [DSI Games] Expand

  1. Without a great multiplayer component to build replay value, Arctic Tale’s lifespan is based solely on its short single-player adventure.
  2. The developers probably had the right intentions: they want to educate youngsters about the changing environment. It's just too bad they only focussed on that and failed to offer anything resembling a good game. The graphics are plain offensive and you never really feel like you're in control.

There is no story other than "you are a baby polar bear, now go collect coins (even though animals don't use money) and play boring minigames."
The controls are awful -- you have to point at the screen and hold A to walk and hold B to run, but running depletes your life meter! Can you imagine if sprinting in Minecraft made you lose hearts? Having to hold my arm up for 10 minutes makes it tired, forcing me to stop playing -- which is what I'd like to do anyway because of this game's atrociousness! Even worse, there is no support for any other controllers, even though I have a shiny black Nunchuk lying around, waiting to be used.
Since Arctic Tale takes place in the Arctic (duh), the only colors are white and blue, which makes every area look the same, and being on the Wii doesn't make the game look any prettier.
The minigames range from easy and boring to horribly frustrating. The slides are not fun at all because of the awkward control scheme, the sliding-across-ice minigames require perfect precision, and a large portion of the minigames are nothing but quick-time events.
The other animals you can play as don't feel very different, and the goal of the game is never clear.
In short, there are a lot of crappy games on the Wii, but this Arctic Fail is one of the crappiest -- it must have come out of a polar bear's behind.
