Challenging and captivating mix of turn-based tactics and Match-3, somewhere between Puzzle Quest and FTL.

Ironcast is the very definition of the saying "easy to pick up, difficult to master".

Find turn-based strategy too intimidating but puzzle games too lightweight? This inspired hybrid bridges the gap perfectly, mashing up two stale genres and finding something fresh. [Apr 2016, p.88]

Ironcast isn’t for everyone as it’s geared towards the more hardcore strategy gamer but if you like a challenge and have a low frustration tolerance, Ironcast could be for you.

Ironcast is a solid strategy game, easy mechanics and a deep level of customisation makes it worth coming back to.

To sum up, Ironcast is an interesting puzzle game that combines puzzle gameplay with RPG elements. It can definitely be enjoyed by some players, especially those that don't get put off by having all their progress turned to dust once they die and need to start everything from scratch, over and over again.

Having already enjoyed it myself on the PS4, I thought it might entertain him also. He enjoyed playing it on Saturday evening and it was a good fun being able to strategise with him about what to do next.

Originally I found the game to be a great concept with some pleasing strategy and it is getting a new lease of life as I play through with my nephew. If you are you looking for something different, or family friendly, I would say play this great independent title.

You'll face enemies one on one, chaining together attacks by forging 'links' and chains on the battle table.

You have a grid of symbols, spanners for repair, electrical bolts for attack, snowflakes for engine coolant etc. Link the symbols together and click A and voila, your Mech will prepare it's weapons, or shields or if needs be, repair itself.

It's turn based combat, which is divided in rounds. You have three attempts to link together your combos, and charge up the weapons and decide to move, stand and fight or go all out for repair and hope the enemy does not take you down.

If you think this is just another match three puzzler, you are mistaken. it's surprisingly tactical and some fights can be quite tough.
