Ride 5 proves clearly that when it comes to motorcycle physics,
Milestone currently has no equal. It’s by far the best installment to
date and while the pace at which the series evolves may not be fast, the
most important thing is that the Italians are heading in the right
direction.
Milestone proves once more that when it comes to Monocycle Racing, they are the one to beat, as RIDE 5 stands head and shoulders above everything else in this genre and sets its own standards.
I have to be honest, 3 years after the fourth episode I would have expected a more evolved fifth chapter and, instead, net of a decidedly more focused and engaging career, the competition against the AI suffers from illogical behaviors that the player is forced to manage manually, while technically you don't notice a leap in current-gen quality that could have been expected, without the ballast of a cross-gen development. At its best it is always Ride, an almost unique game in the panorama of simulation racing and therefore a point of reference for those looking for this specific type of experience. But there is potential here that goes far beyond the improvements expressed in this chapter, closer to those of an annual series than a triennial one.
Ride 5 is not perfect, but it offers enjoyable in-game moments. We appreciate the work of the developers regarding the graphics, sound and animation. The graphics of the bikes is excellent and worthy of this generation of consoles. The soundscape is phenomenal. There is a good level of realism of the bikes and riders. The amount of tracks and bikes available is also excellent. Unfortunately, the driving model is not enough, it is imprecise, especially on the braking system, that makes some races really frustrating. A real shame for a title that, in our eyes, could really be the best of Milestone.
Ride 5 is still a very good and beautiful game, rich in content, which will keep you busy for long hours if you are not afraid of its repetitive aspect. To advise without hesitation if you discover the license or for a recovery after a missed episode.
Ride 5 is the biggest and most feature-rich Ride game to date, but it’s a shame that many rough edges and issues hold it back from greatness, especially for newcomers. Perhaps with a patch or two, Ride 5 will turn into something really special, but until then, it’s hard to recommend it over Ride 4.
Next gen motorcycle game with blend of arcade and simulation makes a perfect combo for pros and casuals aswell.
People that say it's too difficult they are out of their minds... they expect to git gud in a matter of days and that's not going to happen.
I'm close to 600hs of gameplay and dominate every single time trial and track with most classes... takes a while to really understand how to ride bikes to the absolute limit.
It's sad to see people complaining for lack of content which is not true... tons of bikes to choose from and dlcs every month
Good-
Great motorbike, circuit visuals; Dynamic Weather; Riding aids available for less-experienced fans; great DualSense haptics; Quality racing gameplay.
Bad-
A dull career mode; Poor facial design and animations; Lacking extensive bike hardware customization options.
Thoughts-
Many fans want a reason to put down RIDE 4 and pick up RIDE 5. With the fifth entry in the series, it’s not enough to tweak the graphical presentation, the motorbike physics, the weather system, and add accessibility options. Potential buyers want to be enticed by a fresh gameplay experience. Racing is racing. That part will never change. But how it’s presented, and the mode of play offered to players through progression structures, further management options, or cinematic storytelling with a modicum of choice will all go a long way to keeping fans engaged in the long term and invite newcomers simultaneously.
Ride 5 looks and feels better, I got the game 3 days early and decided to go for the platinum, the grind is almost unbearably monotonous and the game has had various patches that don't seem to make it possible to complete, and 1 actually made it way worse. The endurance races are hit and miss if it puts you down to 20th from 1st and sometimes the races won't even finish, I know a few people pretty much have 1 trophy left and at least 1 unobtainable time trial is impossible to get within a few seconds of the bronze time. I would have been done with the game by now had it been playable from start to finish, but here we are, waiting around for patches, I know some people have brute forced it but I'm not willing to repeat an endurance race multiple times hoping "this is the time it will actually work as intended". I f you're a casual player I'd recommend it as I'm sure by the time you get to the potential problems they will have been fixed, but still totally unimpressed with the day 1 until now experience.
I held off on buying this day one, because of the frankly ridiculous pricing - £60-70 for a game is daylight robbery imo, but that's another story.
Picked up a copy from Amazon for 35 quid, and I think this is a fair price for what you get - a game that looks no better than the free PS5 update to Ride 5, a game that is now missing base bikes, to be sold back to you as DLC, a game that has no AI; seriously guys, the opponents just follow lines and do not react to your position in the race at all -did you want to create Destruction Derby for bikes this time around???
The only good thing I can say is that there are some nice new model bikes, it actually feels like a Ride game with a modern crop of motorcycles now; and for that I applaud Milestone.
It's just such a shame that the game is let down by horrendous 'AI' and dubious handling - the latter being huge understeer, which has been apparent in all Ride games (I have them all), forcing you to try and compensate by tweaking the rear ride height; but it's like they turned the dial up to 11 on Ride 5. Only racing slicks take the edge off it now - and I'm not talking about the bike running wide as you open the throttle - that is a welcome addition and true to life.
Don't pay more than £35 for this, and don't touch the DLC - until there's a massive PSN sale on that is.
Oh, and why the hell does it feel like they're trying to go down some lifestyle route with all the stories and nonsense now - we get it! Bikes are cool, they're fun and involving to ride, and the experience can never be equalled by any car - but do we really need adversaries and all this near Buddhist talk about how we are supposed to feel etc.
As a long standing fan of the 'Ride' games, and the release they bring me when my bike is away for the ice and snow - I REALLY struggle to recommend it in the current state. Oh, and if you are on PSN, get ready to REALLY REALLY hate the triggers - like a clutch on a real bike, there only seems to be a small mm of travel that does anything - so the lightest touch seems to lock the front wheel! And, to add insult to injury - Milestone removed the ability to tweak such settings (as you can in the GP games)!!!!!
Very disappointed with this game.
It's a bad copy of Ride 4, with the AI at stupid level.
The pilot continue crashing when touched by IAs but IA never crash when you hit them.
