This exceptional tactical stealth game gives new life to what was a tiring genre. [Nov 2017, p.80]

Let's face it, 'Commandos' will never return but Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun its a worthy successor to the genre of stealth and infiltration strategy. We abandoned the green berets of World War II to focus on five feudal Japan heroes who will cooperate to dethrone the new Shogun through many beautiful scenarios, concentration skills and large doses of patience.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is a masterfully crafted hardcore stealth title that offers a fun, challenging, and fair experience set in the thick of feudal Japan. Despite some issues, the game's excellent gameplay, superb art and music, and strong writing all help to make Shadow Tactics one of the leading stealth titles of this generation.

Despite its minor camera and screen tearing issues though, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is great for those looking for a challenge. Its mix of stealth, strategy and action is a highly enjoyable one, and with its wealth of missions and bonus objectives there’s plenty to go at.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun brings a particularly brutal challenge, but at no point does it ever feel unfair.

A perfect game that heavily leans on old RTS gems such as Desperados or Commandos 2.
It's fairly challenging and requires a lot of patience, quick-saving and elaborate thinking but nothing beats the awesome feeling when a plan or tactic you worked out and tried a few times finally succeeds.

The characters are well written and the voice acting is genuinely enjoyable. The levels are beautiful and different, ranging from busy villages to lush forests and icy mountain passes. I really dig the level desing.

I have to say that I was a bit worried about this game as an XONE port but they did a really good job. Using a controller feels intuitive and I never struggled or missed anything.

If you loved these kind of games in the late 90s/early 2000s then this is for you.

Very charismatic characters and light story, but also fun, bring life to meticulous planning missions, where you will have to go step by step to solve its challenges and accomplish its objectives. The game is not easy, only for people who like hard challenges, not recommended for whiny players Expand

Played this game on Game Pass just before it was scheduled to be removed so I rushed it somewhat and I think I would honestly have enjoyed it more if I had taken a little more time on it. Every level has you scratching your head trying to plan your moves and use the squad's abilities in the most useful way to get you through the level. Characters are great and I really felt it when I lost one of them part way through the story. I'll probably never play this game again, but I am pleased I got the chance to complete it. Expand
