    An encouraging new beginning for the series with an interesting and realistic take on the rally experience, but it's unfortunately hindered by some serious technical problems.

    From an inexperienced team as Kylotonn (at least when it comes to driving simulations) it's a good debut. Shame that the final polishing was clearly rushed: not many driving wheels supported, framerate issues, bugs. On the other hand, the driving, even if not as a pure simulation, is fun and compelling.

    WRC 5 has to deal with the budget and the lack of experience of the team. The effort is there and can be seen, resulting in a driving system which helps the less experienced but also proves suitable for those looking for a more challenging. Also interesting are the options for multiplayer online. It is impossible, however, to gloss over technical problems, especially on the frame rate uncertainty and some bugs too, a shame considering that the Xbox One is the only exponent of the genre.

    If you’re looking for a rally game to play on the Xbox One, or if you follow the sport closely, WRC 5 offers a solid racer that has a nice balance between being accessible for all and offering a challenge to those looking for a more simulated experience.

    Evidemment, les graphismes ont fait un bond en avant sur notre nesk-gêne actuelle, ce qui cependant ne coule pas toujours de source, loin s'en faut. En tout cas, le travail abattu par Kylotonn est à cet égard des plus satisfaisants puisqu'il n'est décidément pas très éloigné du Dirt Rally de Codemasters, un sérieux compliment. L'environnement sonore fait pour sa part amplement jeu égal avec le développeur britannique, voire carrément mieux sur quelques détails !

    Mais le plus important réside quoi qu'on en dise dans la simulation du comportement routier et à ce sujet, WRC 5 l'emporte sans coup férir sur Dirt Rally. Ici, les voitures ont un poids véritable, immédiatement perceptible ainsi que l'inertie qui l'accompagne dans les tranferts de masse. La gestion de la motricité étant des plus convenables, on parvient rapidement à tirer profit de cette modélisation soignée pour balancer la voiture comme on l'entend dans les défilés de virages et d'épingles.

    Le freinage démontre aussi de belles qualités de réalisme et implique la caution adéquate dans les distances d'arrêt, rappelant à cette occasion le Richard Burns Rally et son caractère pontilleux (mais qui confondit à son époque la simulation de rallye avec le patin à glace, pauvre RBR !).

    Voilà donc un jeu de rallye à la fois maniable et globalement assez réaliste (en témoignent les spéciales de nuit, impressionnantes !) et dont le contenu est des plus étoffés.

    Hélas, ces observations ne concernent certainement pas les épreuves sur le tarmac, qu'il soit sec ou mouillé, habituel talon d'Achille des jeux de rallye. Le comportement y est comme de coutume très perfectible, WRC 5 ne sachant gérer alors ni une motricité correcte ni même (!) un simple sous-virage !

    En outre, si les graphismes se révèlent fort agréables, WRC 5 n'affiche que 30 im/s et peine surtout à les maintenir : l'image se déchire puis le cas échéant, les ralentissements pointent le bout de leur groin ; ça en devient presque gênant sur certaines spéciales, pour ne pas dire scandaleux...

    Quoi qu'il en soit, cette cinquième mouture n'est pas à dédaigner, puisque faute de combattants, elle reste pour l'heure la meilleure simulation de rallye.    … Expand
