Lots of people are giving this movie a hard time. But that doesn’t track with the movie I saw. I didn’t just like it, but loved it. I think people might be missing the true point of this movie. I see a story building in what came before, and opening the door to something we never could have expected.
Black and Awkwafina and Hoffman do their jobs, but the jokes have a way of arriving like jokes, and sounding like jokes, but not quite being jokes. This is an action movie foremost, which is fine.
It’s a hurricane of slapstick (some of it in fact very funny) and age-appropriate energetic fight scenes, but lacks the sweetness and charm of the franchise at its best.
Instead of finding the perfect balance of humor as the other films did, jokes outweigh and occasionally undercut the few resounding sentiments on personal evolution.
IN A NUTSHELL:
After Po is tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace, he needs to find and train a new Dragon Warrior, while a wicked sorceress plans to re-summon all the master villains whom Po has vanquished to the spirit realm.
Po is gearing up to become the spiritual leader of his Valley of Peace, but also needs someone to take his place as Dragon Warrior. As such, he will train a new kung fu practitioner for the spot and will encounter a villain called the Chameleon who conjures villains from the past.
The film was directed by Mike Mitchell and Stephanie Stine. Writing credits go to Jonathan Aibel, Glenn Berger, and Darren Lemke.
THINGS I LIKED:
The fantastic voice talents include Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Viola Davis, Bryan Cranston, Ian McShane, Awkwafina, James Hong, Seth Rogen, Mr. Beast, and Ke Huy Quan.
Lots of adorable humor, both spoken and visual.
The energy is fast paced with tons of action.
Several characters spout wise mantras throughout the film. Kids should easily be able to spot the positive messages of the movie.
The animation is very colorful and imaginative.
There is a lot of discussion about being a spiritual leader and what that means.
We get to see some past characters that were fan favorites, as well as some new ones.
Keep watching during the final rolling credits to hear Jack Black sing “Baby One More Time” and see some cute training sequences. You’re definitely going to want to see him sing that in person rather than just as a panda bear, so check out his video on YouTube with some all of his costars. Hilarious. I loved it.
I DIDN’T LIKE:
Awkwafina does a great job, although she kind of plays the same character in animation as she does in live action movies.
It’s too frenzied that it became exhausting to watch.
Not all of the jokes land.
While the movie is cute, it’s definitely not as good as the previous films in the franchise and feels like a cash grab. Kids will probably get a kick out of it but adults who loved the earlier movies will feel disappointed.
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
Animated violence
Gambling
Various weapons are used
Creatures are in perilous situations
Talk to your kids about what proverbs are and how they can help us with our goals and life’s journey.
O filme é legal e divertido, mas ele falha na forma de levar a história e o enredo que deu certo nos outros longas da franquia. A trama é superficial.
The film is cool and fun, but it fails to convey the story and plot that worked in the other films in the franchise. The plot is superficial. There is a preparation for a great evil and an epic battle that was just expected to be incredible. The ending suggests a passing of the baton for a character who was introduced and who had little captivation, the film tries to captivate with what worked in the first, the incredible jokes and forms of fights, but fails in the main and crucial moments of the narrative.
No clear structure to the film. Every plot seems like a lazy way to advance the film onto the next step. The jokes are all cliché and unfunny even for a kids film. A film made to milk a dead cow.
Kung Fu Panda 4 ****
One thing that I like is Po is really strong in this one
The movie got rid of the five because if the five were here Po Definitely pick them as a successor so the movie had to get rid of them and replace them with a Fox voiced by Awkwafina (omg it gives me PTSD from The Little Mermaid)
the staff make no sense at all everyone can use the staff?
so everyone can go to the Spirit Realm if Po accidentally handed them The Staff of Wisdom?
I thought only Master of Chi can use it
Chameleon **** a wasted potential she takes everyone's power but got hit by a staff 1 time and lose
Shen's cannon can take her down at this point
The fox (I don't remember her name every time I hear her voice I wanna die )
I don't know why Po picked her as a successor she's not special at all
yes she's strong but what other than that
I don't think there's gonna be Kung Fu Panda 5
the moment they replace Po it gonna a TV series or a spinoff
