The premiere of Best Time Ever was a truly chaotic series of stunts, and enjoyment of it probably derives from just how staged you thought the audience interaction was. Either way, at a certain point it had a manic energy no other variety show of recent decades has come close to capturing, and that in itself is a strange sort of achievement.
Watch it yourself. NPH does a wonderful job of engaging the audience in thoughtful ways that have never before been done in television, all while hosting a complex live show. Lastly, it is hilarious and constantly improving.
Haters are going to hate. The chaos presented in this show is further enjoyed and respected when you realize the choreography and many hours put into work by Neil Patrick Harris. It is rare to see a man who already has so much, actually work for his paycheck. You can be assured ill be on my couch each week, eagerly awaiting the randomness that is #Besttimeever
[Neil Patrick Harris was] hampered here by a format that might work better on daytime TV than at night, and better in the U.K. than here, and by gimmicks that seem more in step with the Velveeta spirit of "America's Got Talent," and by a show that's almost willfully aggravating, he may have met his match with Best Time Ever.
Its ratio of energetic, entertaining segments to time-wasting, self-indulgent filler (on the part of Harris) just doesn't pencil out in the audience's favor.
I like the idea of Best Time Ever and would love to see this and Maya Rudolph's variety thing and even live episodes of Undateable encourage more network risk-taking. For that to happen, future episodes will have to be the best time ever for more than just Neil Patrick Harris.
Forced and frantic, what Best Time most often relied upon Tuesday night was the minimal pleasure of watching people be good sports--coupled with a seemingly unshakeable belief that seeing celebrities have fun is fun in and of itself.
'Best Show Ever' is REALLY the BEST SHOW EVER!!! Neil Patrick Harris is amazing!! Love this show - can hardly wait for next Tuesday - 8pm......check it out!!!!!!!!!
This was great! I thought it would be cr@p given the"0" and "1" reviews. Even if it's not your style, the quality, alone should warrant a 5 or 6! Watch the 9/25 episode. I was very pleasantly surprised!!! Lots of stars, talent, humor, fun, and, for the most part, an excellent show.
This show is boring and seems very staged. It's like a bad rip-off of the Ellen Show. It's terrible to watch and sitting in the audience while the show decides what skits they think work must be like rotting in hell for all eternity.
If NPH opened the show by jumping a shark on water skis then BTEWNPH could be put rest straight away. As talented as Doogie is this is not the way to display it. Over the top awkwardness that needs the plug pulled now.
Two words describe this show. It stinks! I tried to watch the program and find some entertaining value in it, but as hard as I tried I couldn’t find any emotion except boredom.
It is my fault actually because I never thought Neil Patrick Harris was that funny, but I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. No more!
