I wasn't sure at first, perhaps the title threw me off, but 1/2 way through the first episode, I knew I had to watch more! Well acted and written, it catches your attention and immerses you into another reality filled with magic and adventure. I'd be interested to see what they'd come up with in a 2nd season!

Overall is a good show, with a charismatic main cast and cool -- even if a bit too economic -- magical moments, for a show that skews towards a younger demographic they sure aren't holding back on the gore. But again, solid show, and hopefully we can see more of it in the future, also Jay Lycurgo was a good choice for a lead. Expand

We’re not completely sure that the story in The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself won’t get muddled again like it was at the beginning of the first episode. But we have faith that it will keep things focused on Nathan and his attempt to keep evil at bay.

The chemistry between Lycurgo and Parkes is immediate, her mix of playful forthrightness and fearful vulnerability coiling tightly around his combination of wild rage and growing inner strength. They give The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself a sweet humanity but, when its claws are out, its wickedness delivers on the promise of its name.

The Bastard Son and the Devil himself sits closest to is Shadow and Bone – also from Netflix – in that fairly cliched young adult fantasy tropes are elevated by some snappy writing by an excellent scribe and a well cast group of likeable actors.
