Showrunners Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland have perfectly reimagined Ryan for modern audiences. They certainly couldn’t have found a better actor to play him.
All of the performances in Jack Ryan transform what would be a rather typical military-hero-hunts-nefarious-brown-terrorists yarn into a series that leaves you curious about the fates of a number of unrelated people, including those related to the antagonists. ... It’s a bingeworthy action series led by a superhuman office worker. Need some people to root for? Krasinski, Pierce and Jack Ryan have you covered.
Jack Ryan in his first season manages to become one of the best action series based on military tactics, since its well-developed history by Graham Roland and Carlton Cuse. The first season stands out precisely for introducing us to viewers who Jack Ryan really is, his fears, his vision, his strategy, and that brings us closer to his character.
Despite paying cursory service to humanizing its principal characters, Jack Ryan is mostly interested in a battle between broad notions of good and evil. It thrives on the tension of Jack's chess match with bin Suleiman, reducing an entire nation's efforts to combat terror to a personal beef between two archetypes.
Jack Ryan excels at pyrotechnics. Walls, trucks and people explode in spectacular arrays of destruction. Its fight choreography gets muddy, especially when Jack is tussling with some terrorist. ... The most charitable thing that can be said about Krasinski’s performance here is that he looks deeply, deeply tired.
The season’s length strains the effectiveness of its throwback sensibilities, passable action choreography, and formulaic characters—attributes which may be better suited for standalone feature films.
As long time reader, watcher and ETC. of both Tom Clancy and The Jack Ryan Series let me say that this TV shows is a fantastic take on a classic! Can't wait for more, and well worth the subscription!
p.s. the same to be a lot of hate for season 2 I loved it I thought both season 1 and 2 absolutely fantastic can't wait to season 3
Can we get a TV show that tries to tell the truth vs some sort of sanitized and "agency" approved hollywood fart piece. Can't we just say that Venezuela is a Socialist dump and not some right wing Facist state (as it's portrayed in this series?). Why can't hollywood tell the truth?
Absolute meh show. Good enough for background noise but that’s about it. The acting is average, the storylines are vanilla and the script teeters on absurd.
