Much of the opening episode is weighted with defining all this glistening new hardware, introducing the staff and waiting around wondering if the reluctant Bridger will return to duty. [14 Sept 1993]- The Hollywood Reporter

A slow-going but fervently earnest series ... a little bit of "Little House on the Prairie," a little bit of "The Waltons." ... But the script is so full of mood and moralizing that it mostly plods. [31 Mar 1994]- The Hollywood Reporter

There's some nice moments in the premiere and great camaraderie. But it's stock stuff and you would hope for some invention. [31 Dec 1997]- The Hollywood Reporter

Bigger than life plays smaller than life on the smaller tube ... But the production values are high and there's a solid attempt at infusing the script with humor. The series might grow on us. We have an eternity. [2 Oct 1992]- The Hollywood Reporter

Inspired by the 1987 feature film, also steamy, with Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin, the pilot is dense but awkward while we pick through the accents and try to figure all the twisty relationships among the twisty characters. But there's a nice bounce to the strong cast and a fresh and delicious (and steamy) locale. [7 Aug 1996]- The Hollywood Reporter

No flying feet, nor much blood here, nor much excitement either. [22 Sept 1997]- The Hollywood Reporter

It's thin fantasy material that often stumbles over the line of cute, but it's snappy and cleverly fresh. [8 Sep 1997]- The Hollywood Reporter

The nicely cast ensemble is formidable, but the driving power is the wit and freshness of the writing. It snaps, crackles and pops. [4 Mar 1997]- The Hollywood Reporter
