Game-play is also simple: Come across a distressed town, get the lowdown from the townspeople and save the day by fighting monsters in random encounters and beat the area's boss. It's still fun, even after all these years.
Final Fantasy II... holds up extremely well, with an excellent story and fleshed-out characters. [Jan 2005, p.87]

After some time, I decided to try out the FF games in order, so I got the first two, and I must say, I'm impressed. FF1 had some excellent RPG gameplay, while a little hard for a newcomer like me. And for its time, was truly revolutionary. Sure the plot wasn't the best, but this was done at a time when Square was about to be bankrupt, so that's forgivable. FF2, which was done after the first Final Fantasy was a success, ended up being an even better game. Excellent plot, more excellent gameplay, and a much more balanced difficulty. I'm proud to say that I am now a Final Fantasy fan. Overall Score: 9.5, which rounds up to 10.

This game is beast. I mean, you get TWO graphically enhanced versions of the first TWO Final Fantasy games? Just be prepared for a challenge; Final Fantasy is no walk in the park.

The value in having two classic RPGs in one pak is astronomical. Combined, the games are worth 80 hours of play time. [Jan 2005, p.137]
These games aren't as flashy as current greats like "Golden Sun," but they are solid old-school RPG's and great in their own right.
Yes, the games are huge, but they don't offer much replayability at all, much like all RPGs. Dawn of Souls deserves its 78% though, as you're definitely getting your money's worth if you've never played the early Final Fantasy games before.
These aren't really the best RPGs on the system. But they're historic games, and they've been buffed up to the best they'll ever be, so if you're a fan of the genre, it's a nice little package you'd do well to check out.
Aside from those tree huggers that cling to "classics," the average gamer of today would have little use for such long, drawn out RPGs that just simply can't compete with today's RPGs. There's a reason the RPGs are really popular now and that's because they've evolved from what they were.

The graphics may be a little quaint by today's standards but these games are stone cold classics of the genre and are still hugely enteratining. Add the ability to save at any point and you have an old school RPG that's perfect for portable gaming.

Classic game revamped, made more tolerable by a dial-down of difficulty for the main game. All the difficulty is in the new optional dungeons, as is most of the best in slot loot. I found it quite annoying to collect!

FF 1
Pros : Extra end game cotent with the Shrines
Cons: Battle is unballanced and bad and elements are useless (Exept DIA).
FF 2
Pros: Great Story about rebeling against the Emperor and very cool progressing system
Cons: It's very boring at the start and also most of the enemies are weak just like FF 1.

I am afraid of playing retro RPG game because there is no hint to show where to go next place . FF1 is actually I talking about . totally waste of my time . I don't even what to level up , and the money had been 999 999 . the Earthgift Shrine unlock screen is very confuse . I had try try try try try .. and failed , wrong secret way
