Gunlord X is an absolutely excellent Turrican clone, recreated with love on a new platform without laziness and with the desire to offer the best possible experience.
Gamers may not remember Turrican. Thankfully, Gunlord X is here to fill that gap inside everyone's soul, which only fast-paced 2D action can fill. Not since Sonic Mania has a throw-back retro style game been pulled off with this much panache and style. While it may not be lengthy, it is hard to let go of the controller because playing as Gunlord just feels so good and the wake of destruction he can leave feels so satisfying.
Gunlord X is not only the ultimate version of a brilliant Turrican hommage, it’s your ultimate 90ies nostalgic runˋ n gun fantasy with modern amenities like twin stick controls. The pixelart is beautiful and matches the brilliant playability and the game design. Giant bosses, hidden items, spaceship shooting sections and it’s all wrapped with a beatiful score from Rafael Dyll- Gunlord X is one hell of a ride and fits perfect in the line of recent fantastic neo retro releases like Battle Princess Madelyn, Fox ´ n Forrest’s and Devil Engine. **** had some great moments on Nintendo consoles. Rest In Peace. Now it’s time for a new hero on Nintendo Switch. Praise the Gunlord!
Kemosabe X
Gunlord X shows everyone else what the hardcore fans already knew: the NG:DEV.TEAM is fully capable of delivering an authentic, white-knuckle, retro-shooting experience. The action is constant but not overwhelming, and your arsenal feels varied, with none of the weapons ever feeling useless. The boss fights are fun, while the level design mixes in a good deal of exploration. Really, the only complaint is that there's nothing to bring you back once you finally beat the game, but considering how enjoyable the journey is, that isn't a big deal. Shooting fans are going to have a really good time with Gunlord X.
If you’re a fan of classic run ‘n’ gun action games, then Gunlord X is an absolute pleasure to play from start to finish. It joins the ranks of must-own retro-inspired titles for the Switch, delivering blistering action, stunning visuals and an absolutely stellar soundtrack. It could be argued that there’s little originality on offer and the longevity of the game is also questionable thanks to the fact that it's 'built' like an old-school coin-op release, but honestly, when the experience is this good, it seems churlish to grumble.
Gunlord X, although at times seeming difficult, is still a fun run ‘n’ gun game. The variety of weapons and stages is a warm welcome, making it worth the asking price of $9.99.
You want turrican on switch ? you got turrican on switch, its called gunlord X. musics to die for, all weapons like spreadshot and plasma and scatterball are here, same as the metroid/turrican ball. Levels play out like turrican , and graphics a passing nod to jim power. absolute classic. The most amiga game not on amiga. total classic.
any devs , can you please make it known who the musician is? cant find it anywhere on the **** ! want to purchase the soundtrack please.
Really excellent game. Game that i put down swearing never to play again, only to clock up multiple hours and end up loving and appreciating this game. A lot of craft and love went into making this. I only wish stage 2 which is a shooter/SHMUP style level, that there there were more levels like this. The studio could make a sick shooter just in this style. Highly recommended, great shooter for the Switch.
No GOAT material but an exceptionally well executed homage to the Turrican series from the 90s.
Most details are inspired from those games, like the mechanics, looks and sounds. The composer of the soundtrack just should've oriented himself even more to the SID (C64) and Paula (Amiga) sound chips to amplify the nostalgia factor. Still, his soundtrack's nice and very electronic too.
One of the improvements over the originals is that in this one here you can reboot the game from the last level you've seen.
Overall a pleasant game and basically a must play for fans of Turrican.
