"I'll take interactive game shows for 100, Alex."
"This video game is intuitive and can be a lot of fun yet its glitches will make you laugh and occasionally become frustrated."
"What is Jeopardy! PlayShow?"
"Correct."
Jeopardy! Playshow is available to purchase and download right now on your Xbox One, Jeopardy! PlayShow will set you back a bit o the initial price of admission, but should you find yourself paying out that cash as you will discover that the Jeopardy! studio becomes yours to embrace. But is it really worth the price of admission? Well honestly I doubt it for most gamers, as I find myself as an experienced lifelong gamer and well educated I struggle often times give the correct question with the answers given on show or in ****’ll find that Jeopardy! PlayShow provides everything that makes the TV show such a hit for fans and fans of the show will undoubtedly be in love. Not only will there be more than 35 years worth of questions to draw on, but all the little details are included as well such as Categories, Clues, Wagers, Daily Doubles and even signing your name to the podium. Throw in the chance to take in the trivia based on the season, tournament type, or past winners. If you're going to choose a Jeopardy game for the Xbox this is a better decision than the previous released one. But the genre still struggles to engage the fanbase of its core audience as a video game on Xbox One vs. a television production.
This game uses a similar mechanic to Jackbox games, where each player logs in to a central website to okay with their phones while you watch a classic Jeopardy episode. Conceptually, this is a good thing. In practice, it falls short.
Voice recognition is poor, the web interface is buggy, and the timer counts down just as fast for speech or text entry. I hoped this would be better than the awful game Ubisoft made earlier this year. It was not.
Nice to see/hear Alex Trebek again, though.
It’s so bad. So not worth like $30. Plus, the mic NEVER picks up what you are saying. Such an AWFUL game. Good idea though. I don’t even like reviews, but I played it with my family and it **** so much. It was such a joke of how horrible it was lol.
My wife and I watch Jeopardy! on a (week)daily basis. We're huge fans of the show and were enthralled with the fact that an interactive Jeopardy game actually exists. I bought it without reading the reviews on XBOX, (I think it had a 1 star rating) and thought maybe people just don't like Jeopardy! as much as I do. Boy, was I wrong.
I was going to list a couple of pros to throw the developers a bone, but the fact this is even for sale shocks me. So here we go, everything I found wrong with this game in a half hour.
-My wife and I had trouble connecting on both her Samsung Galaxy S21 and my iPhone 11 Max Pro. I even tried my old Google Pixel 3 XL to see if maybe that did the trick, nope. I even tried it on my tablet, because what the hell. I finally was able to get connected to the server on just my iPhone after closing the browser and trying to reconnect at least 6 times.
-I had to reconnect again because when my phone's screen dimmed, it disconnected me from the server.
-I answered the first two questions quickly and the game was responsive. I had an immediate surge of "this could be awesome, let's give it a chance. The next five questions I did answer correctly, but the speech-to-text in this game is so awful that it I ended up -$1600 and never actually missed a question.
-The game then decided to just crash unexpectedly. I was booted to the main screen and my phone, despite the fact the game had ended, was stuck in this weird "call mode" (because I'm guessing the speech-to-text access) but I had to force quit Safari to get it to go away.
This game is a sham. It comes with 3 episodes and the option to buy additional packs. 3 episodes of a broken game for any amount of money should be illegal.
You've been warned, as other people have said. Do not buy this game.
Late edit: There was a happy ending. Microsoft refunded my purchase, which unfortunately took away my ability to give it a review there. So here we are.
This game is the worst. First of all, the game is not interactive at all. The episodes that you play follow the exact path that they were played on TV as selected by the players, so you don't select categories or anything. The game also includes THREE episodes, and then you pay $10 for packs for include additional episodes. But is that the worst part? Oh nooooo. The worst part is the site that they connect you to in order to play. The site is slow, so sometimes it'll make you think you buzzed in but somebody else actually got in before you. The speaking feature is a joke, and half the time, it won't even recognize that the answer you spoke is correct. I'm looking at you, Count Chocula. There's also a keyboard option... But that fails too. You see, now you have to type out the answers on your phone, but you only have about two seconds to do so. Everything about this game is a joke. And worst of all, the developers have disabled the ability to review this game on the Xbox store because they know it's a joke but they still want you to buy it. I fear that I won't be able to get a refund from Microsoft on this game but I am absolutely going to try, because to sell this game as a finished product is absolutely criminal. Do not buy, you have been warned.
SummaryNow entering the studio is YOU. Compete against your friends — & past contestants — using actual TV episodes hosted by Alex Trebek. Jeopardy! PlayShow combines your Xbox, mobile device, and your very own voice for the most realistic gameshow experience you’ll ever have.
