Light Fingers fills a gap in the Switch's library, offering a charming and exclusive indie couch co-op game. With a bit of word of mouth, it has the potential to become a sleeper hit.
I wish more people knew about this game. It only gets more fun the more you play it, especially when you start customizing your board. Endlessly replayable and addicting. I haven't played single player but i can't see why you'd want to, this game is meant to be played with friends. At least, they may start out being your friends! If you're looking for a more strategic alternative to Supe Mario Party, this is it.
Masterpiece!
Light fingers is a digital boardgame that centeres around a beautiful and lush clowckwork gameboard, with tiles that rising up in a very fashionable manner as you explore the board. (like the GOT intro) This is very much a player-versus- player kind of game and if your in it for the singleplayer, forget it entirely. The game plays in a way that the players rolls dices, to see who goes first and how many tiles you can travel. The goal being a certain number of "loot" bags. While traversing the tile-map you will find coins (to buy other dices, and stuff) and cards (to screw over your opponants).
THE BOARDGAME
To summarise the rules as shortly as possible, main ingredients is "loot" , "cards", "coins", "stealth points". Loot are in all shops and in dungeons, if you get 4 loot and return it to the thives camp you win. Cards can double your dice-rolls, add or remove a couple of moves and loads of stuff like that. Cards can be played on yourself or on other players or guards. Coins can be used to buy special cards or better dices (D20) ect. Stealth points are used to sneak past guards, hide at certain spots, or to steal loot from your opponants.
It all plays out very remenisceant of a classic boardgame and the artstyle and music is really amazing at creating that "special feel" needed. 4 player with 4 bags of loot tend to take about a 30 minutes to an hour of play. Really alot of intrigue and backstabbing happends on the board witch is really really alot of fun. Combined with amazing soundscape artwork and founded game mechanics this really ROCKS!!!
DUNGEON looting / DUNGEON RUSH
Then there is the "other" part of this game, a part not quite as amazing and fun, an that could also use som polish , im talking about the "dungeon" mode. This seems very fun in theory. Real time action PVP (think crawl) where one player runs through a dungeon while other players operate traps and tries to kill the dungeon looter. My problem with it is that i personally find it to be either to easy or to hard, (cant really find a good sweetspot), maby that will be fixed in later updates and patches. This is not the main game either but rather a welcome treat. Some will probably find it very fun but im not that into action gaming. There is also a "dungeon rush" mode where its all about the dungeoncrawling action segments. Again this is not my cup of tea. But i respect it being there for those who like such. Sadly you need to do dungeon rush to unlock cards. Devs have said future patching will fix some loose controls in dungeon and som minor bugs that are found there, also devs have said card unlocks will also happen on main boardgame in future patches.
Summary and score 9/10
Well this might be the BEST DIGITAL BOARDGAME since dokapon kingdom. At least in terms of RELAXED FUN!. Even with its flaws in pvp-dungeonrushing (that many still might enjoy the heck out of) this is an incredible game as a whole. As long as you are 3 people you will enjoy this game for a long time since replay valute is high (many diffrent strategies and tactics can be used) and no game is exactly like another. Incredible fun is to had with this game if you enjoy boardgames. I personally have this game being the best game of all 2018!
Questions and tips for making this game 10/10 GOTY!
When watching minimap there is no GRID on the dark tiles not explored. That means its sometimes hard to enticipate how many moves it takes for guards to reach you if space between you and guards are undiscovered. A simple black tiny grid would solve this.
When looting a dungeon, Why am i still getting wanted level? (im not stealing from someone). MAby make DUNGEONS only give "1 loot" but NO wantedlevel. (that would be a great compromies, since you get alot of coins anyway in dungeons). That way for people who like to play honest. I really wished that would be the case. :) Royal vault could still give a high wantedlevel.
Often players get "cards full" (already 5 cards) , maby decrease sparringly cards by 10-20% on the main boards. So cards are more seldom to find (but not to soparse). I think free cards laying around is just a tiny bit to frequent
More fun and unique cards to buy in shops and to find would be great.
Last wish.
When steeling loot there is "quicktimed" events. For those elderly with less than avvy rection skills i would puprose a DICE ROLL. (the highes one wins the duel). Make this an option since quick reactions are unfair for "families" where grandpa wont ever win that kind of duel. (just a tip). or some other form other than the quick button. :)
small complaints and smal wishes for an amazing great game overall!
Just played this game and the originality is off the charts. Since Mario party I have been searching for a fun on the couch multiplayer and I have found it. Highly recommend it!
The game is great for what it is: a PvP board game. What I'm dissapointed with is only the single player mode, which only seems to serve the purpose of unlocking new cards for the other mode.
SummaryWhat do skulking thieves do after a night of procuring shady spoils? They gather at a favourite tavern and wager it away on a friendly game of Light Fingers. Played on a magical clockworks game board, this turn-based multiplayer game has real-time action and devious opportunities for misdirection, all in the pursuit of securing more loot...
