Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the gift that keeps on giving. Who knows what the future holds for the franchise? For now, this latest wave provides more fun and excitement to tide us over until the final round of tracks heads away later this year.
Wave 5 of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass provides a compelling case to come back nearly a decade after its vanilla release. Whether one wants to hit the town or the tub, there’s a little something for everybody here.
the tracks are pretty favorable. the new characters make the game feel so complete. I have young kids who want to play Mario kart come over pretty often and they almost always want me to be the giant flower. glad I bought this
Even with a couple less-than-stellar tracks thrown in, Wave 5 of the Booster Course Pass is a ton of fun, especially the fact that Squeaky Clean Sprint is as silly as it is and you can finally race through a Canadian city in Vancouver Velocity. Great stuff.
Overall, Wave 5 is another good wave, though not a great one. Squeaky Clean Sprint, while perfectly decent fun in itself, can't quite match the heights of something like Yoshi's Island, and tracks like Moonview Highway and Sunset Wilds make us feel like Nintendo just isn't quite giving its all when it comes to this DLC. Still, the positives outweigh the negatives, and we're confident that once the final wave lands later this year, the Booster Course Pass will prove an essential purchase for Mario Kart fans.
With this, we have just one wave of tracks to come. That’s eight more chances for some of the best tracks in series history to still make an appearance. If they don’t, I can always take solace in the fact that Mario Kart 9 is probably on the horizon at this point for whatever the successor to the Switch will be.
I'll get the negatives out of the way first. WHY did they take the sunset out of sunset wilds? I mean, it's called SUNSET WILDS!!!! The track is still fun but it suffers from being way to simplified from it's original. Nintendo, patch it please.
This one isn't really a negative just more of a curiosity. Why Wii Moonview Highway We already have the tour city tracks, so adding a non tour city just feels repetitive. I mean, Wii's Dry dry ruins would have been a way better pick. I still enjoy it, but it doesn't make sense.
Now for the positives. All the city tracks are amazing though Athens Dash is a bit janky. Nintendo finally decided to stop being lazy and made the graphics resemble the base games graphics. Squeaky Clean Sprint is a masterpiece and I love all the alternate pathways. They made Daisy cruiser higher than a C tier track so I have to give them credit for that. Most of the tracks are great in this wave (especially Koopa Cape), but come on Nintendo, did you really have to ruin probably the most anticipated track of the booster course pass? I mean, seriously, Mario kart tours version has the sun set gimmick, and it's a phone game!!! 8.5/10.
It's not perfect, but Moonview Highway originally from Mario Kart Wii was definitely a good one to bring back, especially since I grew up with that game. It was nice to see Sunset Wilds return as well. Its pretty cool that you can race inside a bathroom, (the Sqeaky Clean Sprint race track). Bringing back Koopa Cape from from Mario Kart Wii while listening to the song made me think about all the fun times I had as a kid.
Meh. The only tracks I looked forward to was Koopa Cape and Moonview Highway, two of my favorites. I ended up more sad than excited, seeing how bad they butchered them by borrowing graphics from the laughingstock MK Tour. Not to mention Sunset Wilds not having the sunset...
