Monopoly for Switch does about everything right. The game offers numerous boards and you can adjust the rules to suit every need. And you can play the game where ever you want with up to six players. The waiting time with six players is long though.
By no means a bad game, Monopoly for Nintendo Switch just seems to miss the point a little. As far as replicating the board game goes, this title does a great job. However, the things that make Monopoly great - the arguments, the social aspect etc are somewhat lacking here. For the price of this title, you'd be better off spending your money on the actual board game and playing with friends and family - it'd be cheaper and a heck of a lot more fun!
GUYS DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME I SWEAR
IT KILLED MY ENTIRE FAMILY
you guys know the plot of jumanji right??
WELL GUESS WHAT
WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN THAT **** AS A JOKE
SPOILER ALERT: It has people applauding when you buy something and I have to admit I'm one of them whenever I'm playing this beautiful masterpiece. 10/10
Monopoly for Nintendo Switch works for being a Monopoly game, but is ultimately a gimped port of a several year old game with features such as My Monopoly missing and questionable design choices such as not being able to mix and match house rules. If you’re looking for Monopoly on the go, it may be better to wait for a price drop.
Monopoly on the Switch works, much as it did on PlayStation 4. There are some nice little elements, like themed boards, which don’t change the gameplay in any way, but are fun to see. All the popular Monopoly house rules are in there too, so however you like to play the game you’re covered. Loading times are a bit long, and the AI takes its sweet time to take each turn, but otherwise it’s a very clean, visually appealing take on the board game.
Monopoly super-fans will likely find the Switch version to be another great addition to their already-heaving collection, but for the rest of you you'll be getting an identical experience without the heart or soul.
With the load times, the cool but only once or twice modifiers and living boards that are all pretty much the same, it is probably a better idea, and a cheaper one, to just buy the physical board game, rather than invest in the electronic Switch version. Every know addition to the Switch's growing library is cool with me, but Monopoly is one you can probably take a pass on.
When I first purchased this game, I expected just another cliche monopoly experience. I was surprised when I opened the game up, and immediately I was wowed by the loading screen. It told me what the name was, the copyright information, everything else that I needed to know. I was shocked at how smoothly the game ran, my switch didn't even crash once. I immediately smashed every other game I owned (except for 1-2 switch, the only game which rivals monopoly in quality). Breath of the Wild has nothing on monopoly, nor does that stupid "Mario Odyssey." Monopoly is the one game to rule them all.
Positives:
-Simple gameplay that is easy to pick up, but hard to master, appealing to both a casual audience and the most hardcore of gamers
-Spooky Halloween board that sent shivers down my spine
-Fun play pieces, such as the golden, spooky ghost!
-It's the Dark Souls of board games
-Up to 6 players for local gameplay
-Up to 6 players online
-Intuitive mechanics that I have never seen before. Move out of the way, Sonic, Monopoly is here to kick your butt!
-Smart AI that can challenge the most seasoned veterans of Monopoly!
Negatives:
-Friends for local gameplay not included. This became a big issue for me when i didn't have anyone to invite over :(
-Wi-fi router also not included. Became a big issue for me when I couldn't play online due to only having access to Internet at my library.
-Controller does not work with my cats, meaning single player is my only option
I enjoyed this Monopoly game on my first few rounds of board game play, I think the presentation is good, but after a while I can't help but wonder if things can be sped up a bit because game's pacing is too slow, you can't skip on most of the camera transition sequences when its doing nothing, and the dice roll physics can tend to take long time, I know they aim to make it seem realistic but there should be options to make it faster. I tried playing it with family and friends but the slowness of the game is a snooze fest.
Music and voice narration is fine. Beautiful graphics but it suffers from low frames per second at times, it's a minor issue due to the Switch hardware, but still it adds up to the feel of the slow game pace.
If they could update and make some options for speeding of the game by
- Make dice physics faster or an option to use just instant dice roll randomizer.
- Skip button on most camera direction sequences when it does nothing to the board game play wise.
- Improve the frames per second esp. on living city and other graphics intensive boards.
- Not sure if the AI contributes to the slow pace, but they should find ways to optimize it for faster gameplay.
I like the game, and I know Monopoly board game really does take time in real life, but simulation should have options to make it faster and with the modern game technology we have today. I just find it too slow.
Monopoly has always been a classic game to play, however when me and my family were playing the game it crashed and deleted our save file. We all wanted a refund immediately and sadly we got the digital version so this is impossible with the eshop since all sales are final for digital games. We were having such a fun time playing until this happened and we were so far in the game that we just didn't want to start over.
SummaryIts MONOPOLY for a new era! Play the classic game and watch the board come to life! A full 3D city at the center of the board lives and evolves as you play. You own a miniature world that will interact with your progression throughout the game and celebrate your achievements. Play the way you want - you can change the rules and adapt the...
