Omega Strikers always has you thinking “just one more match” before sucking you in for countless more hours. At the low, low price of free-to-play, it is a minimal investment for potentially big fun.
Omega Strikers is a free-to-play action sport video game, developed and published by Odyssey Interactive. The game features fast paced, three-on-three online multiplayer matches, in which players compete to win more sets than the opponent team. Omega Strikers is developed and self-published by Odyssey Interactive, a studio composed of former staff of Riot Games. Matches in Omega Strikers consist of two teams of three players, who fight to score by sending the Core, a large hockey puck, into the opponent's goal. The game is presented from a top-down perspective, with the whole playfield visible at once. Players can choose from a cast of characters, known as Strikers. Each Striker has a unique set of abilities which can be used to attack enemy players, move the Core, buff players, de-buff enemies, and affect player position. When a character takes damage, their stagger bar decreases, once the stagger bar reaches 0 it is easier for their opponents to knock them back or even off the field entirely for a short duration. Through interactions like scoring goals, knocking out enemies, making saves, etc., players obtain experienced points that can power up strikers throughout the game. As of release, the game has added goal-locks which are obstacles that the team to need to strike with the core, which opens the goal gates and allow a team to score. Furthermore, “awakenings” are added, these are power ups, a player can choose to either prevent the opponent from getting stronger or to increase utility of their character. Powerup can increase damage, duration of ability, size of player influence and decrease cooldown for abilities. These awakenings are picked by the MVP of the team that won the set which is decided by how much XP they gained in the set. Every player after that will pick in descending order of XP gained for the set. Each set is 3 goals and once a team wins 3 sets, they win, this is the format for Normals and competitive. As for the other game modes random awakenings will be given at the start of the match and it would be first to 5 goals unless it is an event mode. expectation The game is very addictive, a normal game that consists of players equal in skill would feel like it only lasted 10 minutes when 30 minutes has passed. On average a typical game can span between 5 minutes or up to an hour, this all depends on the skill of the players. During the game there are a lot of opportunities that a player can take advantage of such as a missed play by the opponent or to take advantage of the field, each map has a different element that makes it unique. The only way to take advantage of these situations is to be in a position where a helpful situation can occur for you to monopolies it while limiting the plays the opponent can do. In this type of game, teamwork is one of the most crucial factors and being able to pass and allow your team to keep control over the position and allow your team to have a higher chance of scoring, in practice players forget the fundamentals and create openings for opponents to take advantage of and score. But even with perfect teamwork this means nothing if you do not have the individual skill to pull off certain maneuvers such as KO’ing opponents or simply wining striker wars (the term striker wars refer to a situation where the core is traveling in a direction and both you and the opponent are approaching the core to control the direction of the core) During early gameplay it is possible to simply brute force the core into the opponent goal but once you reach higher ranks, team play is essential. The target demographic of Omega strikers is people age between 13 to 20 but it is for everyone to enjoy, there are unique events that change every few months, the current event has a visual novel of characters in the game and you complete missions to progress in the story. Each event will give the player rewards like titles or emotes they can use during a game. The game consists of many minute details one of which is the character story in which by reading the details section of a character you can get information of the characters background and lore, which can allow the player to understand some of the voice lines a character say during the start of a match. As of the current update of the game there are still a few flaws however that is cause by the low player base and the game being in its initial stages of development, such as match making pairing low ranks with high rank players or simply having to que for an hour for one game, other minute bugs are simply visual errors which could be fixed within a week. Every week the game releases new patch notes either nerfing or buffing characters fixing bugs or adding new characters to the game which makes the game feel new every time. In my opinion Omega Striker is a fun game that you can just play casually with excellent graphics and soundtracks that hype up the mood depending on which character won the set. Everyone should try it once.
Omega Strikers is a fun experience with an excellent presentation. While the game doesn't have much else besides its standard versus modes, it's an incredible game that's very easy to get into and tough to master. The game's free-to-play structure could use some work in terms of the kinds of goodies you get for free, but other than that, it still can be a fun time for most players.
Those looking for a new free-to-play activity to add to their list can certainly do worse than Omega Strikers. It may not be anything revolutionary to the table, but it's enough of a good time that it's worth a few pick-up rounds, especially given its availability across numerous platforms.
A really well made free to play game in a rather niche genre
Champions are well priced, communication from the company is great- no complaints about anything so far.
In most MOBAs when your team is completely lost you can have some hope of carrying. In this game it is an impossibility. Bad teammates are worse than no teammates because they actively ruin your plays, and you encounter them so often. I have never played a game with matchmaking so consistently terrible, it seems almost by design. Probably due to the novel gameplay but most players don't understand fundamental mechanics like clearing and passing, making them useless at BEST.
