You loved Journey? Firewatch? Life is Strange? Then yes, you'll Lost Ember. The atmosphere is simply magical. The soundtrack is gorgeous. The only thing it left me wanting was more Lost Ember and more hankies maybe :D because that story... Oh my! Please go and experience this gem for yourself. Hope you'll love it just as much!
Great graphics, a compelling experience, and overall heart, paint the general picture of this adventure game. While some aspects of the story go unexplored and the animal-shifting aspect largely goes under-utilized, these are not enough to distract from a positive experience. Gamers need to know going in that Lost Ember is a very casual-friendly experience, but one that is still well done. The only thing holding it back is a lack of truly diving into the mechanics presented, or truly investigating the story themes brought forth.
Lost Ember has its heart and soul in the right place, and every time I discovered a new area I was left amazed with the gorgeous vistas and intense beauty of it all. I also greatly appreciated that this is one of those games that respected my time and, large as its sense of scale is, is over quickly for anyone who doesn't want to waste time hunting down the collectibles. However, the initial goodwill I felt for the game evaporated quickly when I realised how shallow it really was. I can't see myself remembering this one, or coming back to it to play it again, and that's a real pity.
Add to this the various bugs we encountered during play, and Lost Ember becomes a fairly hard sell. We got stuck on geometry a couple of times, and had to reset the game more than once. At one point, some animals failed to spawn, which meant we couldn't progress without reloading the checkpoint. These rough edges don't help a game that's already a little threadbare. Unless you're curious about the narrative, we'd beware of the dog in this case.
First: the graphics style, the music and the narrative are breathtaking. Together, they create an atmosphere that I never experienced in a game before. I was tearing up several times because of the joy seeing this beautiful world and sometime because I felt with the main characters in the game.
This game is different: there is no fighting, there is no time limit, there is are no super skills needed to finish it. It invites you to explore, to enjoy the fantastic music and to let it all sink in. I've spent more than 10 hours into it, and although I was done with the main story a few hours ago, I'm still coming back, trying to find just everything. This is an experience you shouldn't miss! Btw: I never experienced any crash or freeze while playing on my PS4.
First time I cried when playing a game. Lost Ember is beautiful, clever, and extremely emotional. It's incredible what this small team managed to create. Right now, there are some technical issues but that's not what I'm playing games for. I am looking for unique experiences and Lost Ember is as unique as it can get.
SummaryA beautiful world holds the secrets of its past for you and your companion to uncover. Play any animal you meet to see the world from new perspectives and chase your destiny in the exploration adventure Lost Ember.
