One of the best games to release this generation and is definitely the best game to drop in 2009 (so far). Outside of the lackluster stealth and disguising mechanic, the brutal combat, huge open-world, varied challenges, and utterly satisfying gameplay makes this a must-have title for any serious gamer's collection. Get ready to put your life on hold!
Whilst the game does have a few minor flaws, none of these take away from the overall experience which can easily keep you entertained for countless hours.
Infamous is more elegant and refined in design, with more of a focus on ranged combat, while Prototype is – truth be told - more frenetic and fun. Prototype is more of a spectacle and puts more power and choice in the hands of the player.
Despite the medium graphics quality Prototype offers a deep, funny and complete game experience. The storyline is solid, mature and involving and the narration presents original techniques that keeps the player always involved. Radical Entertainment production is a clear step over the average.
Your personal affinity to the game will largely depend on whether you prefer to be led through an engaging and tailored adventure or to just be given a set of powers and make your own fun.
Keep in mind that Prototype is foremost a hack-&-slash-game and not, as some might expect, a free-roamer. Making it a game with not a lot of variation, even though you can unleash a lot of different attacks. The action is fast and chaotic, but may get frustrating because of the overload of enemies and high difficulty setting. Only a must-buy if you're looking violent action and a fast paced hack-&-slash game.
I really don't understand the reason for the low score of this game, because this game provided the best performance in its time and performed superbly in every part, including the story, gameplay, and graphics.
This plays a lot like an 'M' rated Spider-Man/Hulk game. It's a bloody and profane-filled cousin to "Infamous". Fans of the open-world action title "Mercenaries" will have a blast with this. "Prototype" provides over-the-top destruction. It has a good story, a fun campaign and tons of side-missions/collectibles. I would rate it with an 7.8 out of 10.
This is a very fun sandbox that gives InFamous a run for its money. This is an awesome game and has a lot of content and different powers you can use to wreck havoc among the living. A lot of side missions and stuff to do. Story is a bit disappointing, but it's not bad. Mercer is an interesting character and it's fun to play as him. Overall, I'd check this game out.
Did not enjoy my time with this game. Granted i am playing this game for the first time in 2019 so playing it in its heyday may have made me more forgiving of its flaws. The one that stands out the most is the combat which is very unrefined, unresponsive, frustrating and ends up making most combat situations an exercise in anger management. I understand that you can get better at it after much suffering but that doesn't make it good. You can master the macarena but that doesn't make it a good song, it's still **** Other gripes would be the story, boring mission design, poor character animations, bland story, repetitive side content and a difficulty spike towards the end that is less difficulty than it is the game lazily throwing 10x the the number of enemies at you. On the plus side (which does not come CLOSE to making up for the bad) running and gliding around the city is pretty fun, okay setting, good graphics, and some cool powers. If you have a hankering for a superhero game and you have no other options you might like this but all in all a subpar open world gaming experience. I would overall not recommend this game at all.
Prototype was such a promising looking game, but in the end turned out sour. The idea of this game was a good one but the way it was delivered... not so much. I found that the gameplay got insanely boring and the bosses proved to be ridiculously hard. About the only thing good about this game was the story. (Which yes is highly unoriginal, but had a good twist of it's own.) Total waist of time and money.
