Squadrons is the sort of game that EA needs to make more of. Tight, focused experiences that meet a need perfectly. Any fan of space combat should be diving into this the first chance they get.

After such a long wait for a successor to X-Wing and TIE Fighter, Star Wars: Squadrons feels like a lucky shot with a proton torpedo.

Star Wars: Squadrons delivers on great dogfighting, even when its campaign doesn't live up to its full potential.

Star Wars: Squadrons is ultimately the space shooter long awaited by fans, with careful execution and always respectful of the original material ... a success, no more no less.

Star Wars: Squadrons revives some of the best space combat from older games, but its delivery stumbles with a forgettable story and condensed multiplayer variety.

The typical gamer will find Star Wars Squadrons a difficult game with a bland storyline and poor content. Others will have an opportunity to take out their joysticks and find out just how great the classic Star Wars sims were. It's good that the gaming community was reminded of the classics like X-Wings and TIE Fighers, but I'm still waiting for a true gem to come in the future.

There’s a good concept at the core of Star Wars: Squadrons, as flying a space fighter and managing its systems can be a lot of fun, however, you have to be a very dedicated Star Wars fan to enjoy a drab campaign with just a handful of memorable moments and watered-down multiplayer modes from Battlefront 2.

Xwing vs. Tie Fighter was my first online gaming experience, I played the hell out of it and Xwing Alliance, made many lifelong friends from it along the way too. These games have influenced my life considerably, and when Squadrons was announced last year I set about looking up all the old friends and groups from those games back in the day, and I've been having a blast ever since, and making many new friends along the way.

We started playing XvT/XWA again in preparation for Squadrons coming out, and it's rekindled so many joyful memories and experiences from those games I played in my childhood. Amazingly I'm part of groups that still play XvT and XWA, as well as Squadrons, and it's honestly been my best gaming experience since XvT. I honestly hope it was popular enough to make Squadrons 2 or other true star wars space sims a reality in the future.

10/10 doesn't feel like it gives the experience I've had from this game justice. Ignore the bigots and the haters, this game is fantastic and the community is still thriving despite no further support from EA.

Combining the spirit of the old spaceFrom the very first trailer, I realized that this is exactly the game that I have been waiting for. Combining the spirit of the old space simulators with the canon of Star Wars, Star Wars Squadrons is very good and definitely deserves attention.

    What I was missing:
    -Third person view
    -More space aliens for customization
-More representation. Yes, Gunny and Gray turned out to be very good, but I would like to see more open representatives of minorities both in the game and in general, in the Star Wars universe. I was also hoping to see Grey's husband in the story.
-The Phoenix Squadron look does not match the Rebels animated series. I was hoping to see the blue-green camouflage of the fighters under Sato's command.

It has a lot of depth within its simplicity. It's a huge bummer that it doesn't work with TrackIR, and it lacks a little in customization, which is why I gave it an 8, but it has a TON of potential and is a must have if you like flight sims and/or Star Wars. It's clearly a multiplayer starfighting game, and THAT it does really well! I look forward to the DLC. Don't listen to the weirdos who can't handle women and people of color having equal representation. Expand

I really like space games and have several flight sticks and pedals etc and the great news is: sticks and pedals are fully supported. Hotas,I really like space games and have several flight sticks and pedals etc and the great news is: sticks and pedals are fully supported. Hotas, hosas, pedals. All supported.

The bad new that it doesn't matter much. At least not on on a detailed level as I had hoped for flight control. Squadrons quite simply doesn't feel like flight in space at all. No real drift aside from a manual button trigger option.

The graphics are even on ultra not a real highlight as they are made for VR performance I guess... and then there are the bugs. Keybindings don't react as bound for the mission prompts, the camera seems to have a life of its own when no vr is connected, etc. But my biggest gripe is to be confronted with such a overly casual flight handling. I am sure that it will be lots of fun for many players who just want to make things go boom, and for players like me the piloting skill involved and needed is simply too unrealistic, simple and dumbed down too much.

Also the HUD seems like a ancient thing, probably also in favor of VR. I recommend this game ONLY for VR use. I have a VIVE but even that could not make me want to play more due to the underwhelming flight handling. Just too simplistic for me. After having played it I really think that most of the hight and great "official" reviews were money based, not honesty based. Oh, one more positive: it has good 21:9 support if you ignore video cutscenes.

However the controls are awful, like they designed it for all these inputs but failed at all of them. Despite my best efforts and tweaking, nothing made flying less of a chore. Single player is boring and multiplayer is an unfun, imbalanced sweat fest. I don't even want to know what kind of time sink and tolerance for bad design it takes to "git gud" but I'm simply not willing to try. I love Star Wars so this was a big let down. Expand
