A perfect example of turning something underrated into a great game. Its also embarrasses "Pokemon Colosseum" and its fuddy-duddy turn based approach, flaunting a more hands on approach.
  2. A decent fighting game with enough twists in the gameplay to set it apart from the pack.
  3. It may not inspire players to sing praises of its innovation or unparalleled gameplay, but it is nonetheless an entertaining foray into the world of monster collection.

Production values are average, but digi-devotees should be satisfied. [Nov 2004, p.86]

Overall the game has more polish and a few new features, none that I would consider to be more than what you would find in an expansion pack.

The only aspect of the game helping it avoid becoming a complete disaster are the arenas. [Jan 2005, p.106]
  7. It is very depressing to see a game unashamedly take ideas from existing franchises. Worst still, Black Ship Games have not in anyway tried to improve on the game they so hopelessly ripped off.

But the problem is that some digimons are way stronger than others: Piyomon sucks so much it's almost impossible to win in hard with that, black versions are not only different, but stronger (grabs drain life), the music is absolute garbage compared to the first game. The good part, other than the gameplay, is the maps, like toy madness, or the final stage; 3 evolutions and the unlockabl bosses. Expand
