With so many modes and diverse rewards to uncover in Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, it almost feels like 2.5 games in one package. Plus, the fact that the online component works so incredibly, and we still can't pick a favorite between playing as a cop or racer speaks volumes to the game's quality. Quite simply, there is no better, more accessible racing game out there.

NFS is totally back on form, returned to glory by the best arcade racer creators in the business. [Issue#232, p.63]

It's a game built round a single mode, in effect, but with its hefty community presence, asymmetrical flex and raw kinesis, it offers more entertainment value than racers many times its size on paper.

An unqualified triumph. It's stuffed with content but rarely for the sake of it, and knowing Criterion it will be handsomely supported for months to come, even though it's already the best pure arcade racing game since Burnout Paradise.

Hot Pursuit is not the most feature-rich, realistic, or deep racing title available, but it certainly is one of the most exciting and enjoyable ones.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit reminds me of the first part of the assassin's creed-series. In general, the game is great, but it's missing variety and long-time motivation. Especially the number of time trials shouldn't have been this high. Races and pursuits are much more fun. The small amount of about 100 cars doesn't really matter, because all of them were done well, although some them have only 300 PS. Altogether, it's a great action-racing-game, but there is maybe more potential for Hot Pursuit 2.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit both disappoints and delights. The excitement and thrill of high-speed chases is marred by the bland and stale routes on which they take place.

Not to mention that the online has the best of any of the racing games i've played the Net code is brilliant no lag racing awesome. Expand

"Race" mode and "timeNeed For Speed: Hot Pursuit is a fantastic game providing a fantastic sense of exhilaration and a great adrenaline rush. "Race" mode and "time trials" are standard racing, not too exciting. But man the "Hot Pursuits" and "Interceptors" are fun. The great thing about this game is the double progression letting you on both sides of the law, cop and racer. The takedowns of enemy vehicles watching them crash, barrel roll and crumble, sometimes in slow motion is seriously satisfying. The variety of weapons available for your disposal are a neat addition adding to the possibilities and adding a more tactical approach to the later game. Having now completed the game I go back and try and simply perform the best takedowns I can. Hot Pursuit is one of 4 games I've ever Platinumed across the PlayStation generations and having put in 73 hours and still having fun is truly saying something. Expand

The best product from Criterion this generation. Graphics is mind-blowing, both technically and artistically. Gameplay is hell fun and thrilling, both as cop and as a racer. Not mentioning the autolog and online. This is better than Paradise, Wipeout, and Gran Turismo. This is the apex and best racing game for PS3. Expand

Are that some races with some 20 kilometers of trails for the adrenaline seekers got a bit too long in between interferes only slightly. The handling of the hot rods is not particularly realistic, with balanced inertia and makes nonsensical cornering but for a lot of joy. Expand

Ok, I bought this game because it was developed by Criterion and I expected something like Burnout but with real cars. The dissapointmentOk, I bought this game because it was developed by Criterion and I expected something like Burnout but with real cars. The dissapointment couldn't have been bigger! The thing is, apart from the graphics and sound effects, this game sucks. The reason why it sucks is mainly because it's gameplay is unimaginative and boring as hell, "been there, done that", "oh, not this **** again" kind of gameplay, and the 30 fps limit means it's also laggy as hell. The cars simply do not respond like they should, there is a delay between your input and the car moving on screen. So even if the game was great, which is not, the lag would ruin it. Expand

    Gameplay: 4/5

Very fun and reminiscent of NFS: Hot Pursuit on the PS2. The Autolog provides a nice social integration to the racing world and the re-addition of playing as a cop puts the icing on the cake. It receives 4/5 mainly because the race types is repetitious (but still fun).

    Graphics: 5/5

As far as racing games go, gorgeous. Nice scenery and great looking rides. For those of you who think GT5 looks better, you're right I give GT5 6/5.

    Sound: 4/5

The sound effects are awesome and more realistic that previous iterations (mainly the tire screeches). I haven't sampled enough of the soundtrack to comment on it.

    Other: -13/5

If you were hoping to play with a racing wheel setup on PS3 then you're screwed. EA/Criterion have taken the liberty to support a few wheels with the major exception of the OFFICIAL PS3 wheel, aka anything Logitech which includes the awesome Driving Force series (G25, G27, GT, Pro). They company "claims" they will implement support for those wheels with no ETA.

    Conclusion: 0/10

If you like or dont mind playing with a controller like me, its a title worth picking up. If you were hoping to play with a realistic driving wheel (also like me), skip this title and get Gran Tursimo 5 (GT5).
