I Recently went back toI have only played very little of Oblivion simply because of one thing that really turns me off. The Leveling System. I Recently went back to playing this game and decided that I don't give a **** anymore of the Leveling System because I'm just going to play it and enjoy it. Even though the game is 10 years old, it still holds impressively well. I Absolutely Love the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood in this Game. Having not completely finished the Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim and finished it in Oblivion, I really couldn't say which one I like better. Oblivion does in fact have more of a Magical and Mythical Feel to the game than Skyrim does. I give it that, but there is just something Awesome about the Nordic feel of Skyrim that I purely enjoy as well. Overall, Oblivion and Skyrim for me are indeed the best RPG Action/Adventure Games I have ever played. If there is one thing that Bethesda did well is making these Awesome and Amazing Games!! Expand

Take my word for it guys: this game is broken! The other reviews on this page are mis-leading.
I am The Destroyer. I will break games, complain about the littlest detail, and tell you whether or not you should buy this game. A lot of things to say but can't due to the 5000 character limit.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is filled with rich detail, decent graphics during it's time, superb voice acting, and gives you plenty of things to do. There is over 100 dungeons in the game, and it masters the RPG element in it's genre. This game was a dream come true for all gamers of 2007 who don't like being restricted to linear gameplay. It all sounds golden, but NOTHING ****ING WORKS!!!

    1. Story
There's a lot to dive in here, so I'll just skip to the important parts without revealing spoilers. The game begins you in a prison where you design your character. You get to pick your race, customize their appearance, and then eventually choose their stats and birth-sign. Assassians have come for the Emperor, and a secret escape passage happens to be in your holding cell. Skipping the spoilers a bit, you'll eventually break out of prison, and can follow the main questline, or choose to go anywhere in the world. The main story itself is a little chiche but is stomachable.

    2. Voice Acting
You'd think that having the same voice actor or actress for each race would hinder the game, but it actually helped. The entire cast is amazing and will have you believing the character.

    3. Graphics and Visuals
Some people would say there was a lack of detail in the art & graphics of this game since all forests and dungeons look the same, but for 2007 standards, it's actually pretty good. The nature and bushes is there in forests. Mountains feel cold & frosty. Swamps feel damp & wet. And the major cities, though probably not as big as they could be, is lively. There is no one in the world that can deny this.

    4. Gameplay
Gameplay refers to combat, customization & level up, and various areas you explore within the game. Put it all together and it deserves the highest rating possible!

    -Battle System-
Enemies swing their weapons in a very stale-like fashion, and all attacks eventually become predictable; fortunately the competitive players are given a difficulty meter in the options menu if they ever want to take it to the next level. Now as for actual combat itself; you have the choice of bashing, slashing, or blasting your foes. The weapons available are Swords, Greatswords, War Axes, Battleaxes, Magic, and many more! You can even play as an archer and 1-shot everything if you manage to build up your marksmanship enough. But beware: the RPG element is active! As you attack, you'll begin to lose stamina, which causes you to do less damage with your swings. Magic requires Magika or Mana points to cast, or you won't be able to use spells. The key is to balance your magicka and/or stamina while depleting your opponent's health, and to get the first strike before any of your foes even notice you're in the area.
Shields are hilariously overpowered in this game, which you'll begin to notice at later levels, especially if you enjoy fighting Legion soldiers.

    -Customization-
The game is very flexible when it comes to customizing your stats. Unfortunately, it's also faulted, and makes you level in a specific way or else you miss out level cap. Quest rewards are leveled --you don't get the full value of an item until you are at least level 25. Now some things that it does do right in customization is giving you the privilege of letting you put on any armor piece you want, and making it so that all equipment is breakable. Once it's broken, you cannot use the item again until it is repaired. Same goes for enchantments.

    -Exploration-
Arguably the best part of the game is when you go out and explore the overworld. There's so much adventure out there and places and see.

    5. Soundtrack
    Acceptable.

    6. Bugs & Glitches
Now, forget every good quality listed in this review or these bugs will screw you over later. In the GotY, if you become a vampire there is no cure! The only way to fix it is to buy the original Oblivion disc. Stealing items causes quests to activate pre-maturely or not at all, which is unfortunate if you're in the Thieves Guild. Quest characters disappear or are missing dialogue. After 80 hours of gameplay, your game will horribly lag or crash every hour. The nightmare goes on....

    7. Personal Enjoyment
    ...

    8. Overall Verdict
I am not trolling. This is a legit account rating this game a 1 out of 10!!! The lowest score possible because 0 isn't a score! It earns it's 1 out of 10 for it's awful bugs, quest halting, and delivering a fantasy that only lasts for 30 minutes at best. **** this game! Too many bugs - It deserves to be destroyed! Do not buy, do not even play!
