It’s a great-looking and sounding game, but one that definitely needs some fine-tuning with the loading and quality of life issues that hamper the experience. Still, the good far outweighs the bad, and Marvel’s Avengers ends up being one of the best superhero experiences ever put in a video game.

It would be hard to recommend Marvel’s Avengers to anybody who is looking for a rich multiplayer experience. Despite being a live-service game, this is no Destiny. But Destiny was also pretty sparse when it first came out. There could be a lot of quality content in the game’s future, and it does seem that the developers want players to stick around for a while. There is a slew of post-launch content planned, after all. Spider-Man, who will be exclusive to PlayStation consoles, isn’t even due out until 2021. It is difficult to imagine what is meant to keep players grinding from now until then. The game is amazing for a weekend, but for several months? For the moment, it seems unlikely. Hopefully that will change.

For all of my criticisms, Marvel’s Avengers is still a game I can’t wait to get back to playing. While there’s a lot of work to do, it gets one main thing right: it’s fun to be an Avenger. Crystal Dynamics captured this incredible feeling of being a superhero and distilled it into a digital environment. Combat is deep and nuanced, with far more complexities and character than your traditional superhero brawler. Right now, Marvel’s Avengers is a bit rough around the edges, but “good isn’t a thing you are. It’s a thing you do.” If Crystal Dynamics can smooth performance and squash bugs, as well as build out a more compelling endgame experience, it has a lot of potential to be one of the most memorable and replayable loot brawlers of this generation and next.

Marvel’s Avengers is both a fantastic story and a dead-average grind for meaningless loot. When everything comes together, it’s a brilliant power fantasy with heart and a true passion for its source material. Those moments are fleeting though, held back by a range of technical issues, shockingly sloppy design, and no solid idea of what kind of game it really wants to be. Some assembly, definitely required.

As it stands now, the campaign is great, and playing as each of the Avengers is fun, but the game just offers too little post-campaign content to warrant continued play. The performance issues are just unacceptable for a AAA game of this caliber. It's clear that this game should have released later in the year or delayed for another year. It really feels like this is yet another game shoved out the door while saying, "We'll fix it later."

Marvel's Avengers' campaign is fun and endearing, but the loot-based post-game meant to be the meat of this meal is unrewarding and overly repetitive.

There is nothing heroic in Marvel’s Avengers, a game that gives the feeling of a mobile title that invades our living room under the "AAA" budget hood. The thing that saddens the most is the sacrifice of Deus Ex’s third installment in order for this microtransaction fest to be released.

This is honestly the greatest game I've come to know. The fighting is great, the story sucks, and the multiplayer has its problems. It doesn't make it short of a ride and amazing. Buy the deluxe edition 4 times and you'll get 4 receipts in your email. It's amazing, getting not one, not two, and not three receipts but 4 RECEIPTS from Playstation?! This game sucks, but it sucks so hard that it's great. There's so many jane foster sex references that wishes me that I wasn't a lonely **** living in an apartment with an anime naked body pillow. Sorry, my dog shat on my keyboard. Anyway, the story is very boring but the combat **** sucks and is **** and the worst thing ive ever played. But, this game is still amazing. Please buy it and go **** yourselves you dumb whore ass **** Expand

The microtransactions are pointless. After a few days I have around 12 skins per character not a penny spent. The story was extremely well done and felt like a Marvel Movie put in to game form. All the characters feel very unique and once you get to the hive missions and hit level 80+ the gear system becomes super important. I would 100% recommend to Marvel fans, and also to people that just enjoy action rpg games.

Crystal Dynamics nailed it, and it has only gotten better for me since reaching max level with my main. I can't wait to see what is in store for the future of this game.

Missions are the same, and so are structures. Also very glitchy. I was so excited for this game but it reminds me of something on PS2 with character dialogue, mannerisms, and movements. Would not recommend at $60, let alone $20. Spider-Man is hands down the better game. Expand

If your looking for a game that’s fully immersive, has intuitive game play, great controls, fluidic, makes you feel rewarded for achievements and holds your interest for hours and hours on end with lots of interesting ways to play, then stop right there, Because at that point this game is a real and true let down. Along with more bugs in it than Antmans underpants, it gets old, boring and frustrating real fast.
If only the games designers showed the same skill, interest and attention to detail as the graphic designers, this would be an awesome game,, sadly whilst failing to fully embrace the Marvel Universe and all it had to (and could have) offered, it’s lack of content and variety, along with buggy gameplay, confused direction leads to a very very big disappointment. Despite more patches than a tramps trousers already since release, Square Enix continue to let the fan base down.

It is honestly an embarrassing experience, the live service is joke to steal player's money. There is no creativity, no interesting story or characters, but there is about 10 minutes of fun buried deep in there somewhere beneath the microtransactions. The worst part however, are the level designs. 90% of the levels are the size of a closet with the creativity of a two year old blind monkey. The levels are disgustingly small and unimaginative, almost to the point of sadness. I cana't believe that someone could take the Avengers and make them worse, that's incredible. Playing as Iron Man is the simplest thing to make fun, but not here, and not from Square Enix. This game is worse than Anthem, and I can't wait to watch it die. SAVE YOUR MONEY Expand
