Apr 8, 2019Sony San Diego overhauls almost every single aspect of MLB The Show with this update, with the outstanding March to October and Moments modes leading the way. At least for right now, it seems destined to go down as the best baseball sim of the generation, and maybe as one of the best sports sims as well.
Apr 8, 2019Diamond Dynasty has enough to keep you coming back for more and this is fueled by the Moments missions. The Show should always be considered as one of the top console exclusive games on the market as MLB The Show 19 is the definitive baseball game of this generation.
Mar 26, 2019On the positive side, the stellar gameplay that has long been associated with the series is again, even better than it was last year. The slow and steady improvement to visuals continues as Sony tinkers with lighting and textures. Diamond Dynasty continues to grow and it has become the best collector mode in any sports video game. On the negative side, the franchise mode and Road to the Show are integral parts of The Show experience and haven't seen much improvement. Luckily, both were already fun, but how long can Sony continue to deliver such small improvements to key modes? At least one more year.
Apr 1, 2019Thanks to new avenues of play and smart restructuring decisions, MLB 19 The Show is once again a contender that is worthy of your time both offline and on. Iteration has paid off for this series in a big way, and it’s nice to see Sony taking chances with new ideas again.
Mar 29, 2019If you want a true-to-life baseball experience, this is almost certainly it. But when you get so close to doing everything right, what you do wrong stands out more. With MLB The Show’s track record, I have no doubt that, come MLB The Show 20, they’ll fix the niggling little issues that prevent MLB The Show 19 from being a truly great game — but for now, those issues still exist, and they’re what prevent the game from making the jump from very good to great.

Mar 27, 2019Gets a little (stress little) better every year: uniforms are better, gameplay is better, graphics in general are better. I love the franchiseGets a little (stress little) better every year: uniforms are better, gameplay is better, graphics in general are better. I love the franchise and video game baseball so that's good and enough for me to buy it every year. If you have The Show 18 it's probably not necessary to buy this unless you are a devoted VG baseball player.… Expand
Jul 23, 2019FYI, I only played Road to the Show (Rtts) , and March to October.
Good New Rtts Progression system for perks Situational challenges inFYI, I only played Road to the Show (Rtts) , and March to October.
New Rtts Progression system for perks
Situational challenges in rtts
Maintaining teammate and rival relationships in rtts
Rtts still fun despite feeling similar to last years
March to October is a great, fun, and quick new mode
Different ways to play the game, whether its button timing or using analog sticks for pitching, batting, and fielding
Can’t leave after simulating to next appearance in rtts. Have to start next game at least then save and quit
Multiple game challenges are negated or effect you negatively when you’re benched or pinch hit and you miss your one hit in rtts
Rtts Feels like last year’s, or last few years’, game with the same animations, menus, awards system, and cutscenes
So far in rtts, no stats and attributes can be improved during all star games
Some Rtts mini games can have terrible timing and calibration
Some Rtts don’t work like they should per their description (ex: Fog of War perk)… Expand
Apr 1, 2019*Agree or not, I've probably played over 300+ online games each iteration of this series over the past 5 years, so more than likely I know*Agree or not, I've probably played over 300+ online games each iteration of this series over the past 5 years, so more than likely I know more about this series than you* (also note im mostly reviewing the online).
Ah.. the casualization of this series continues, year 2. You play a online game then expect a lot of bloop hits, a lot of hits with late timing, the nerfing of offspeed pitch to the ground, the increased "rng" of pitching now, I've never seen so many hangers and pitches down the middle in my life playing this game. You play against anyone who is half decent expect a 10-9 game. The outfielding play is weird this year also, they're stiff and the automated animations sometimes screw up, (a lazy fly and the of jogs and sticks his gloves up casually only to miss and have the ball roll all the way back for a triple). Literally the only online improvement they made was getting rid of the base running exploits and stuff. I don't like the way this series is going. Hey sony san diego! go back to when getting perfect timing=hits and line drives, ala mlb 17.… Expand
Oct 23, 2019Boy am I glad I got this installment for free. I've played every incarnation of The Show and I'm done with this series. Diamond Dynasty isBoy am I glad I got this installment for free. I've played every incarnation of The Show and I'm done with this series. Diamond Dynasty is pay-to-win, if you're willing to shell out the cash you can field a team of 99 rated players and even with mediocre skill that's a huge advantage. The game would be balanced (and more interesting) if you could only make trades in the card market. You could propose trades with other players, like trading cards in real life. That way the only way to amass an amazing diamond-level team would be by playing a lot and doing well.
Another huge irritant is that when the AI wants something to happen, it's going to happen. You can be closing out a game and throw a pitch two feet outside the plate and the Ai will clobber a game-winning homer. I don't mind the fluke errors in situations that make sense, but in this game it just seems lazy.
I do like the Moments feature, it's fun to play through iconic moments and use legendary players, however success in this mode is entirely random. You may be tasked with getting X amount of hits in a game, then the AI pitcher beans you and walks you twice. I found that by simply replaying the moment over and over you will eventually just get a fat pitch to hit.
One last issue- after a game or challenge ends, it shows you the menu screen, then cuts to an award screen showing your progress, which you have to exit from, then goes back to the menu. It drives me nuts. Just show the reward screen before the menu screen!
As a huge baseball fan this is a realistic baseball experience overall but I'm sick of playing my butt off just to keep going up against people who spent a ton of money on the game. Imagine playing Call of Duty and there were players who were using soldiers much faster than you, with better guns, just because they shelled out money for the game. Same thing going on here.… Expand
