Take me out to the ball game and leave me in the nosebleeds. I’m never coming back. MLB The Show 21 is a tremendous homage to a sport so many love. I know the Road to the Show regression will drive people crazy, and the bugs do continue to somewhat hinder my enjoyment. But this is all fixable stuff. What lies underneath is a beautiful simulation of baseball. Isn’t that what we came for?

MLB The Show 21 does exactly what a sports sequel needs to do; it refines and expands on the best features of the predecessor, without taking away from what works.

Now available on Xbox, MLB The Show is still a fantastic way to discover and play baseball. This entry is still a very immersive experience, with a lot of things to do. And crossplatform is a great feature.

MLB The Show 21 is the king of the market when it comes to baseball. It has all the weapons to please newcomers as well as the most demanding players, with multiple accessibility and game mode options, although with very scarce updates in relation to its predecessor. Even though the version used for this analysis was the Playstation 4 one, visually it becomes identical to what we have seen in the past, maybe having the next generation “at fault”, but it is still a very enjoyable experience.

As is the case with many annual sequels, MLB The Show 21 is an iteration and improvement over its predecessor. Having said that, if you bought The Show 20, I personally can’t see enough of a change to justify getting 21 in my opinion. There are improvements to the game modes that deserve praise, though I don’t know if it will keep me on the hook for a very long time. Having said that, both titles share some fantastic elements, such as the impressive depth of mechanical customisation, which by itself carries the game into high regard.
  6. As someone who has little interest in baseball, I have a certain score to the game, if you really like baseball you can add 10 more points.

Also pitches feel more realistic coming in. fastballs have a lot more tight movement and curves/sliders dont come looping in like the have in all the previous years making an 85 mph slider look like its going 70mph. you can also recognize seams a little bit. change ups are very deceptive. Overall hitting went way up IMO.
Pitching: Tried pinpoint, Im awful, ill stick to meter however its nice too have the option to pitch a "perfect" pitch. but not much change overall.
Fielding: feels different and you have to be a little more focused in. They took a little bit of the animation out so you have to make sure you are in the right position and not just get to a relative spot and let animations takeover. makes it a little more challenging which I like because my fielding percentage no matter what game mode is always like 99.5%.
Haven't played much of the game modes just reviewing gameplay, I think their franchise is really underrated and I love how the do progression and the importance of not calling guys up too fast. Diamond dynasty seems to be the same with random add ons, I just hope they continue to focus on the other game modes and don't end up like 2k where its all about stubs and myplayer. Overall reviewing basically just the gameplay aspect its take a couple steps up IMO. giving this a 10/10 just to balance out the angry humans who put 0's but if i had to give the gameplay aspect an honest barstool pizza review type grade out of 10 id go with a 8.1.

People are going to be down on this game because of all of the server problems and a few other issues the game had early in its release. SomePeople are going to be down on this game because of all of the server problems and a few other issues the game had early in its release. Some time has passed now and I think I can give an honest review. NO, this game is not a 10. Anybody scoring it that high must BE high. NO, this game is not a 0 either. Anybody scoring it that low was hanging out with the ones who gave it a 10. The gameplay remains top notch and be prepared to learn more patience at the plate. Dominant pitchers FEEL dominant when you're pitching and when you face them. Base hits feel earned and not like some lucky button press. Thinking of stretching that single into a double? Better check the arms of the outfieders first. For the first time ever I gave Diamond Dynasty a chance and I can see myself becoming more immersed in this mode. I love the fact that XP points are easier to earn across game modes and you're able to gain packs without having to spend more money. The user interface took some time to get used to but navigating menus is easier than in years past. RTTS remains solid and being able to use your created player in DD is a major plus. Now on to the bad stuff. The announcing is flat out awful. Same stale lines from years ago with a few new wrinkles thrown in. Remember what I said about being patient at the plate? Some clear check swings will be called full swings and it will cost you. Online franchise remains MIA and a season mode should be added for those who don't want to play offline franchise. While it's easier to earn packs, it still feels like paying for stubs to buy packs is the easiest way to get top notch cards for DD. Overall, the good outweighs the bad. Core gameplay is what's most important and The Show still gets it right. The bells and whistles need tweaking and it's WAY past the time for either a new announce team or updated lines from the current one. Expand

Menus look like they were designed in the early 2000s, they are a mess to navigate and not set up well. Graphics are what I would expect, not blown out of my mind but it is not ugly by any means. (all diamond or what ever they call this bootleg nba2k game) Gameplay is inconstant, it is obvious the AI cheats by say letting your catcher drop the ball 15 times a game to allow the AI to sneak bases, while the AI does not. Had an issue were my controlled fielder just kept running in a straight line away from the ball to allow the batter to walk home, Had issues were after I won a game the games servers crashed not giving me the W, countless connection issues. This game needs to take a look at other live service games to learn how to make content, game could be fun but not yet, its not there. Thank god for game pass, because i feel sorry for Sony users paying 60 plus USD for this 20 dollar game. Its more then obvious this game is made to purely sell packs. Might come back to this when there it is more fleshed out and hopefully has some content. People rating this 10s are completely delusional and have a feeling they are using their tiny tribalist minds, because fanboying will get crap like MLB the show 21. 60% is what i will give it and even that is a stretch and generous, because I can see potential... You can have this one Sony Expand

Not only does it completely ruin the experience, but it's not even executed particularly well. Feels patched together. Everything else seems fine, if not particular exciting at this point, but the utter destruction of what at least used to be the franchise's flagship mode is something that simply cannot be overlooked. If you have any desire at all to play RTTS, I would honestly (and sadly) recommend you stick with an older game, don't bother with this mess Expand

I'mPlayed for 15 years and bought every version in those years. I play exclusively RTTS. I have tried DD and other modes. I don't enjoy them. I'm too old and my reactions too slow to complete online (I can't "get gud" - cause I already "got old")
This year RTTS is - frankly terrible.
You have one character. You can't create another. Pressing square in the start RTTS menu makes it look like you can - but once you create this "new player" you see they have the same looks, items and stats as your existing RTTS player.
Being forced to do the two way story part every game... 20 minutes pitching not optional - I'm losing the will to live.
Stats capped at 50. You get the other 50 by "wearing different clothes and equipping different cards"
    WTF!!
After 18 hours play I have... 2 cards. A poor pair of gloves and a compression sleeve.
Then you see. They want to FORCE YOU online or into Diamond Dynasty. I suspect they want to force you to open your wallet and buy stubs to buy equipment
Because without it expect to play a real life 40-50 hours in AA and AAA
Sliders cannot be altered without losing all XP.
    Why?
Because the RTTS mode is linked to the online modes and they don't want people "cheesing" a superb player in RTTS and taking them online.
I NEVER WANT TO PLAY ONLINE.
Just give us a option at the beginning "This character can earn offline XP and cannot be used in online play if you press this button"
Then let us alter the sliders.
I get it. Online play is the essential step when converting a single player game into a profitable "software as a service" model.
Frankly is that's the way San Diego Studios are going with MLB the show. They can stuff their game where the sun doesn't shine.
If you are an RTTS player (and it looks like over 50% of players are) the game as it stands is complete garbage.

Literally spent 70 hrs playing every game, get to the post-season and have .750 AVG and come the league championship game, get a notice "You've been removed from the playoff roster". No injuries, just a ridiculous glitch. These games focus more and more on selling you in-game 'loot'..already paid $60 for the game and want to keep charging more to enjoy the game. Done with this series. Sports games are going to hell with greed in selling loot. IDK what they do with the money, but they certainly don't use it to improve the game. Expand
