"Mortal Kombat X offers the best story mode I've ever personally seen in a fighting game. Its cohesive plot and extended cinematics makes you feel much more like a participant in a film than a player on the couch. The fighting is frantic, fluid, and dynamic, with the glorious goriness of the X-Ray moves often turning the tides of battle." ...Read full review

"Netherrealm has taken a number of welcome steps forward with Mortal Kombat X, but no momentum is gathered, because it's stopped in its tracks by an avalanche of needless distractions, some miserable netcode and - oddly, for a game so obsessed with death in all its grisly forms - poor execution of decent ideas. From story to production value to voice overs to character development. This game is just mind blowing. The fact that each character has 3 fighting variation gives this game so much re-playability. Now add online LIVE towers and around 5-6 hour story mode and you have gotten yourself a complete game. Not to mention the excellent DLC characters that will be coming out later on.

This is a MUST buy for any fighting fan, but also a great game to own if you have PS4/Xbox One. The graphics will blow your mind and you will be speechless.

10/10. Next level game. Simply TOO TOO GOOD!

Let me start outI didn't intend to write a review, but then I read some really stupid s... A dude was like "Liu Kang is not playable - 1/10." Let me start out by saiying that Liu Kang is indeed playable, so do your research next time, please. Now for the review. Mortal kombat is awesome in every way. There is so much content i this game. I am new to the whole Mortal kombat stuff, but I have totally fallen in love with this franchise. The characters are unique and exciting, the story mode challenges modern Hollywood movies and the x-rays and fatalities are so disturbing and fun to watch. This is one of my favorite Fighters of all time. I can only recommend it to everybody! Expand

With retooled mechanics and surprising depth in both roster and content, Mortal Kombat is no longer a simplistic gore spectacle. That's not to say there isn't gore, there's buckets of that, but this time it's accompanied by a well developed fighter that plays as smooth as sub zero's ice puddles. The character models and level design are all labors of love with incredible detail, and extras in this game litter the "krypt," an underground treasure hunt filled with campy jump scares.
Some key positives:

Game play is thrilling, smooth, and fatalities/brutalities are disturbingly satisfying.

Each character has three different modes, giving the game even more depth in choice, and allowing for a learning curve that both invites novices and rewards experts.

Voice acting is also superb, taking the immersion to another level.

Old favorites (Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, etc) collide with new, well conceived challengers. There are awesome outside cameos from The Predator and Jason Vorhees, also.

Online play is smooth and engaging, the different modes give you great variety.

Negatives:

the one GLARING negative, which cannot be overlooked, is the price gouging. To get the complete game (Tremor, Tanya, Predator, Jason) you'll be shelling out $80 or more (you may have to also pay for Goro, depending on when/where you got the game.) It looks like there are other characters on their way as well, meaning the total cost of this game could exceed $100. While I'm all for paying for good games, this just feels like pick-pocketing. It's really a shame that such insidious business practices sully an otherwise great game. I'd give it a 10/10, otherwise.
