I’ve been waiting 23 years for a game to come along and take the crown for the best Star Wars flight sim from X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, and have had to endure guff like 2001’s Starfighter in the meantime. Well, it’s finally here. This is now the high watermark for interactive Star Wars experiences.

With some unexpectedly complex and challenging controls, Star Wars: Squadrons is not the sort of game that you jump into and play casually. Squadrons is a surprisingly deep flight sim-style space battler that benefits from all of the sights and sounds of the Star Wars universe. While fun played on TVs, Squadrons really comes to life in VR, despite some resolution issues. This is simply the best Star Wars space battle game ever produced, and is a dream come true for fans.

While Squadrons may not be the most ambitious in scope, it does a great job of making you feel like a pilot in the Star Wars universe. Soaring through space and blasting ships is a lot of fun, and its implementation of VR is so good it feels mandatory now for future Star Wars flight games. More variety would go a long way, but at least it comes in a little cheaper at $40. Squadrons is easily one of the best Star Wars games to support VR, and it’s a solid choice all around.

Star Wars: Squadrons certainly has a few issues. Its enjoyable campaign has some dull moments outside of the cockpit and the multiplayer, as stupendously thrilling as it is, is a bit too barebones at the moment. But it's also the most fun and immersive Star Wars flight sim experience we've ever had thanks to its immaculate gameplay and incredibly polished production.

Star Wars: Squadrons is the dogfighting experience in the iconic sci-fi universe we've been waiting for, and the game is supremely passionate about making this something that genre veterans and hesitant newcomers can enjoy with minimal obstacles.

Star Wars: Squadrons is a mostly-successful throwback offering impressive sights, intense action, and the opportunity for fun multiplayer throwdowns. Some mechanical quirks, a couple irritating missions, and a lack of depth holds Squadrons back from being a true bullseye, but those who have missed blasting TIE Fighters should find the game worth the ride.

Star Wars: Squadrons has its heart in the right place and a comprehensive, in-depth set of flight mechanics go a long way towards realising that childhood dream of piloting an X-Wing. It achieves the vision in some ways, but in others, the package lacks excitement and content. While excellent PSVR support will be enough for some, a boring story and inadequate multiplayer modes leave a lot to be desired.

It reall makes you feel like starfighter pilot weather or not you're on the New Republic or The Empire. The mechanics are great, even though there are only two multiplayer gamemodes they are really fun and immersve, and the story mode is short but has a great way of telling players the controlls and moves they can do throughout the game. I am very exited for the next two updates coming out. Expand

I originally gave this game a 6 out of 10. It has an uninspired campaign, the characters are not really faithful to the original Star Wars - It's Disney Star Wars now, of course. The gameplay is great, but the menus and matchmaking leave much to be desired etc.

All that is moot since I bought a VR headset. This game is beyond belief in VR. The cockpit is so detailed and realistic, down to finger smudges on the targeting screens. It's so real you could lick it. I've never seen anything like it in my life. Turn around in your X-Wing and there's your Astromech droid chirping away. It isn't just a slight improvement, it's a completely different game.

I'm new to VR so I can only handle flying around slowly through the debris on practice mode. I'm someone who gets seasick just looking at a picture of a boat. But even if this is all that there were to do, then it would still be well worth the $40 and a 10/10 rating. I had already finished the campaign and ranked up in the multiplayer, but VR is in every sense of the word a game changer. I can't wait until my stomach gets used to it and I can go full on dogfighting,

For all its many faults, this is probably the most amazing gaming experience of my life and I've barely even started. Amazing.

Everyone says the story is a “glorified tutorial” which isn’t totally wrong, but it is a fun story and the gameplay helps it so much! I remember playing on the GameCube Rebel Strike with my older brother and this game brought that back for us! Now we get to play online and watch each other’s backs. This game is a such a nostalgic trip! Also, if you have ever dreamed about flying in the Star Wars Universe then play this game! My only complaint is that it was stated that if the game does well there would be talks for DLC plans, which I would love to see Clone Wars era ships and some other game modes and maps. Hell I would love a Co-op mode, but for 40 this game is so worth it. Do not let the nitpicky people deter you from this game, this game is great and so much fun. Love this game! Expand

Add to that great sounds, and you got a very atmospheric SW game.
Downside is that there is rather little to actually do, and the flight mechanics are very basic when compared to classic space faring games on PC. So, do not expect much depth to the gameplay. Still, for the cheap price, its ok space flighter, especially since there are very few of those on consoles.

I’ve been a HUGE Star Wars fan for over 40 years, but they have lost their way. Can’t take anymore of the SJW being crammed down our throats. Star Wars was always inclusive and diverse, WAY before it was fashionable to be, now it’s just over the top and this game is the epitome of it. Aside from that, the story is boring, the game play is SOOOO weak, I was hoping for a Rogue Squadron experience, but this isn’t even close. Should have been 3rd person view not 1st, the controls are a mess and with everything that’s going on, it feels like you need a PhD to use them at times. Graphics look pretty good, but that’s about the only positive. Severely disappointed in this game, I’d much rather hook up my N64 or game cube and play through the Rogue Squadron games, or even play the Starfighter Assult missions on the Battlefront games. Both are superior to the mess that Squadrons is. Expand
