The King of Fighters XIV is by far the best KOF to date, and also trumps those other recent big releases by a huge margin. If you are a fighting game fan in general, you owe it to yourself to own this beauty! The game play, characters and even the story line have been ramped up to perfection. I cannot recommend this one enough. Forget the other guys, THIS is the perfect fighting game for the PS4!
In spite of it's completely outdated graphics, The King of Fighters XIV is still the new venture of SNK's combat game into the 3D era. And even if the visuals are quite poor, the title overcompensate with a massive roster (50+), state of the art gameplay and flawless multiplayer games.
The best 2D fighter this console generation. The game has so many modes, approaches to the game in regards to team composition, and retains the deep, intricate, execution-heavy combat King of Fighters is known and loved for. The netcode online in solid, especially when compared to the cacophony of online quality of matches that games like Street Fighter V has. The vast roster of characters contains all your standard fighting game archetypes, so there is something for everyone, be it grapplers, rush down or zoning characters. With a large cast of cool characters, a plethora of online and offline modes, and a combat system that has layers upon layers of depth, this game will keep you entertained for a long time!
While the fighting mechanics are as deep as easily accessible and the roster is filled to the rim, I just can’t warm up to the visuals. Leaving the sprites behind doesn’t do it for me, since in this version the well-known as well as the new characters can hardly keep up with their colleagues in the Tekken or DoA franchises.
The King of Fighters is back to claim its place as one of the most beloved fighting series of all time. Sadly though, it keeps using the same formula without even trying to innovate the core mechanics of the franchise which will only bring back the veteran enthusiasts instead of appealing to new generations. Quantity is not the same as quality and having a lot of characters on the roster won't make up for issues like a bad netcode or horrible 3D graphics.
Don't get thrown off by the new visual style — The King of Fighters XIV still offers solid fighting action for veterans and newcomers alike, and the slate of 19 new characters is a real treat.
The King of Fighters XIV’s combo system is loose and expressive, and the character variety makes it easy to keep playing for hours. The learning curve is still a bit too steep for new players, but those who make the effort to climb it will find a fun, if unadventurous, fighter.
1 - KOF XIV nos fornece uma grande quantidade de personagens e a mesma jogabilidade de sempre.
2 - Os gráficos são agradáveis, mas perde feio para a concorrência.
3 - A trilha sonora é ótima.
4 - O modo história é muito fraco.
Resumindo, é um bom jogo, mas está longe de ser um game de alto padrão como o Street Fighter V, Tekken 7 e Mortal Kombat X. Merece nota 7!
Overall, this was a middling experience for me, simply because I'm really disappointed in how SNK/Playmore did not truly make an attempt to make any bigger steps forward for the KoF series. For the exception of the graphics engine, which seems to be a shinier version of their KoF 2006 engine. (A move in the right direction, I think, as the animations translate flawlessly from their 2D sprites!) Which is a shame, considering the vast character roster, perfected fighting engine and extensive amount of source material for the characters.
KoF needed something MORE! Every entry we get team battle, single battle, survival and arcade; THAT'S IT!!
Sure, there is the online gameplay, it would've been nice to take a few notes from Arksys.
With that said; KoF XIV is a vastly superior title than Street Fighter V and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who doubts me. SFV was a watered-down, bare-boned mess that is still cashing in on fighting game world.
In my opinion, Street Fighter died after Ultra SFIV (Which is the greatest 2D fighter hands down)
Be mindful, you are paying a lot for very little replay unless you have a good group of people to play against.
It is slow, looks bad, didn't respect the king of fighters franchise at all... if this is the price you have to pay in the transition from 2d to 3d, they should have stay on 2d, kov xiii was the best looking fighting game i've seen so far and its been 10 years since it launched (yes, even better than guilty gear xrd)
SummaryKing of Fighters returns with a roster of 50 characters. Besides the returning fan favorites, numerous new combatants join the roster. Nakoruru, one of the heroines from the Samurai Shodown series, joins the fight along with her fellow hawk companion Mamahaha. Shun’ei is a new character who plays an important role in the game’s story.
