The improvements to the handling, performance, visuals, and sound make DIRT 5 on PS5 the ultimate version of the game. If you're still on the fence about getting it, you're missing out.

DIRT 5 on the PS5 is the best version of the game to get on PlayStation consoles, when it works. That’s a big caveat, and most gamers will not want to have to constantly remember to pre-emptively upload their save game after a few races, or risk losing hours of progress due to one unfortunate crash. This also necessitates a PlayStation Plus subscription, since copying PS5 save games to USB storage is unfortunately not an option as of this writing. Assuming these issues get patched out, then it is easy to recommend buying this on the PS5, because DIRT 5 is a showcase racing game for the next generation of consoles with its smart use of haptic feedback and ray tracing, all while delivering a smooth performance.

DIRT 5 is an excellent, stunning and simply enjoyable arcade racer that is easy for anyone to pick-up and play regardless of your motor vehicle knowledge with a career mode that is surprisingly entertaining. You may want to pick it up on PlayStation 5 though since it feels awesome to play with the new DualSense features.

Dirt 5 represents a complete about-face for the main Dirt series, shedding virtually all semblance of simulation in favour of an unabashed, arcade-inspired racing experience that draws from just about every influence you can name except its direct predecessor. It’s not especially deep, and there isn’t as much variety in the career mode as it claims, but it’s fast, frantic, and extremely handsome, and the wild and wacky stunt track editor truly has its hooks in me.

If you've just got yourself a PS5, don't sleep on DIRT 5. It brings bombastic, arcadey racing to the console's launch lineup, giving you something totally different to play alongside the heavy hitters. Although the haptic feedback implementation is basic and one or two visual bugs remain, the core experience is seriously fun, and well worth checking out if you like driving sideways.

The last-generation version of DIRT 5 truly feels like a beta in comparison to this product. The game was designed with the PS5 hardware in mind and shouldn’t have seen a release on the PS4. This is an excellent way to experience what the PS5 is capable of; especially if you have a 4K 120hz television.

Dirt 5 is an at times gorgeous and fun racer, but the uninspired campaign and a lackluster multiplayer mode leaves much to be desired.

This isNever bought a Dirt Game since Dirt Rally (PSVR version) but as this was only racing game at launch, took a shot. I am so glad I did. This is like the DriveClub that was meant to be, only wider variety of vehicle types and surfaces. Silky smooth 60FPS graphics in quality mode (same in online races).

Wheel support is fantastic with good handling feel over different surfaces and conditions and FFB works nicely with a T300RS Thrustmaster.

The game’s soundtrack is also epic.

The dev team are fairly local to where I live and I am so glad they are back on track with this title. I have just spent 5hrs solid and I’m addicted to it. If only DriveClub could be re-released on PS5 with 60FPS, that was the only thing stopping the title being a huge system seller for PS4 and Pro!

As a launch title for PS5, I think it has the best graphics on any title, including Miles Morales & Demon Souls ! I don’t think Dirt 5 marketing team have really promoted this as well as they should have. I was totally not expecting the title to be this good. Superb

EDIT : some slowdown has been introduced in latest patch that wasn’t there previously, so would deduct 2 points for that. 8/10 currently

I wasn't a big fan of Dirt 4. But wow this brings me back to the days of going to an arcade and playing a racer. The sound and visuals/tracksI wasn't a big fan of Dirt 4. But wow this brings me back to the days of going to an arcade and playing a racer. The sound and visuals/tracks are really fun to play. I hear there are some issues with not having fully unassisted steering, doesn't bother me. I wish there were more cars but i guess i'll have to wait for the new Gran Turismo, but in the mean time this quinces my thirst. Expand

    - game still crashes consistently. (no save file corruption though so far)
    - no real need to buy new cars, even when playing on hard mode
    - not much content (lack of cars, customization other than visuals)

Dirt 5 is a great looking game which is perfect for some fast and short fun. start it, play for 30 mins, do some races and then stop playing again. rince and repeat. It lacks customizations and content though for some real long term motivation. It is a fun shallow arcade racing game.

I enjoyed pretty much everything. The style, the cars, the engine sound, the different type of races and the handling felt pretty good, but it didn't last long.

It didn't took long to become repetitive. Most vehicles don't really feel like a different drive experience. I expected the game to get more intense, but everything remained the same. Slow speeds, drift, hold the trigger and wait for the race to finish.

Gymkhana was the worst mode the game could have, specially being tied to a trophy. But if I even mention trophies, let's talk about the 1000 miles trophy that take nearly forever to naturally get. At some point you will have absolutely everything done, completely, you're done with the game, you've beaten every possible challenge, but you still only have about 400-500 miles driven. Meaning the amount of time it took you to beat everything is the same amount of time it will take you to complete a single trophy that should have been half of what it demands.

That was a bad touch, and it is indeed a part of the game, but I also don't think trophy difficulties are tied to game quality so I won't count this one in, but I needed to let it out of my chest regardless.

The game isn't accomplishing much unfortunately, specially from the same guys behind the awesome Colin McRae games. When you're in the 20's competing with massive racing games you can't focus on a single racing type and be mediocre about it. Not when you have racing games that are not rally games, but still surpass Dirt in rally mechanics. Not when you have games that are better at being Dirt than Dirt itself.

Online was also very vague. Matchmake, race, bye. No lobbies, no meetings, nothing interesting or compelling to make people return.

I can't say I didn't have fun, I did for the first 2 hours. Unfortunately.

I want to give it a lower score but the racing is decent and the graphics are nice, but it feels like an arcade racer. I was hoping for something much more realistic and rally based.
