Gotham Knights is up there with Elden Ring as a Game of the Year contender. Its fast, responsive, and action-packed combat is surpassed only by a narrative that had me glued from the very first cutscene. A must-play for fans of open-world titles, and an easy pickup for anyone invested with the Gotham Knights or DC Universe.

While it does attempt to carve out its own identity with its slower pace and more intimate storytelling, it’s hard to separate this game from the Batman games of the past. But regardless of its lack of originality, Gotham Knights remains a compelling experience – one littered with intriguing and thoughtful interpretations of characters, and a creeping sense of dread that will keep you rushing through case files, determined to save Gotham from itself.

Gotham Knights is a beautiful game that tells an amazing story. Fans of Batman and Arkham Knights will definitely like what they see. Still, the game’s over-reliance on grapple and grind can wear thin, even with a terrific nightly progression system that advances main and side missions wonderfully. Final judgment should be reserved for robust multiplayer inclusion, however.

Gotham Knights is the type of game you so dearly want to love, but time and time again it gives you a reason not to. What Warner Bros. Games Montreal has here is an excellent story with top-notch cutscene direction and a fun combat system, with too many needless and confusing mechanics bolted on top. If you can look past them, there's a genuinely great game here. We recommend trying your best to do so; you'll find a compelling narrative on the other side.

A worthwhile entry into the DC/Batman game series, Gotham Knights can be a fun experience in single-player or co-op with its strengths lying in variety and its four-Knight team. However, its confusing UI, repetitive stripped-back combat, and lack of stealth options leave it unable to reach the glorious heights of the Arkham games.

Ultimately, I enjoyed Gotham Knights for what it was – a basic superhero game that provides players with plenty to do. It will not live up to the standard of the height of the Batman: Arkham series, but it's still a fun game, especially if you want to just tune out and beat up some nameless thugs. There is plenty of room for improvement in Gotham Knights, but this game provides a solid enough foundation for future installments, and I enjoyed a game that looked at the wider Batman family rather than focusing on just one character.

Gotham Knights is a lacklustre entry into the Batman mythos that feels like a major step back from what has come before. Whether it's the monotonous combat, subpar 30fps on console, lack of co-op incentives and strain it puts on the single-player experience or the fact that Gotham is dull and slow to explore, nothing justifies its existence. While its story might offer the occasional glimpse of something that could have been, it gives me no great pleasure in saying that Gotham Knights is my biggest disappointment of the year.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So many people apparently went into this game with the wrong assumptions. I preordered it knowing it wasn't a continuation of the Arkham series, and instead knew it was a new spin. I've currently done all the Mr.Freeze, Clayface, and Harley side quests and am about level 25. I've seen really no glitches, the combat is more arpg like than the Arkham series. The storyline is compelling and has me wanting to play more. People complaining about the 30fps have either not been gaming long or haven't done the homework. Even on a maxed PC the game drops fps. And then you want to charge $70 for it? This is unacceptable. Wait for this to go on sale when it will then be appropriately priced. Something tells me it won’t be long either. It’s a game that will still be worth playing, just not at full price is probably the best way I could put it. Expand

Repetive tasks to pad the runtime, a lot of glices with the transversal moviment, enemies are dull bags with a **** of ton of health, the generic rpg mechanics of the that makes ubisofts openworlds an A grade design. Why so many bad design choices? Technical problems? For a 70$ game... The game industry its in a all time low, and i dont see it turning back, because any **** throw at the wall makes money (at least we got the masterpiece Elder Ring) Expand

Worst Batman game ever. Just BAD!! Missions are lame, characters are boring and the fight is very repetitive. don't buy it.
