You can't outrun the sheer horror of existence, but Jett: The Far Shore lets you try. Its heavy narrative is a perfect complement to its exhilarating gameplay.

Something special. A quick jaunt that lingers in the mind thanks to breezy movement, picturesque locales, and a story that offers plenty of tasty food for thought. [Issue#7, p.79]

All that may dent its mass-market appeal, but for open-minded players The Far Shore could well be 2021's most captivating videogame destination. [Issue#364, p.102]

While some annoyances stop Jett: The Far Shore from realizing its full potential, it's definitely a game that fans of experiences like Journey and Abzu might enjoy.

Jett: The Far Shore provides a truly otherworldly experience. With a unique look, stunning soundtrack, and a ship that controls like a dream, strap in and fulfill Jao's directive. Late game choices take the wind out of things a bit, but I still recommend taking a journey on the far shore.

Jett is a memorable space adventure that, interestingly enough, shines thanks to its gameplay and writing, even if both are flawed.

For better or worse, there’s nothing quite like this brave venture into the cosmic unknown, and it shows how sometimes it’s about a willingness to play by the rules of the universe.

Jett: The Far Shore is a simple game, but a beautiful one, and well worth your time. It can make space a little bit scary, without going over the top, and it strikes a great balance between saccharine and grimdark. The Far Shore is a journey I was glad to take, even when the company got a little too chatty.

Highly recommended if you like artistic story-driven indie games. If that's not your thing, skip it instead of whining about it on the internet. Most of the negative reviews are from people who don't like this type of gaming experience and would never even pick it up if they weren't paid to. It's certainly not for everyone, and some people should skip it. Just watch the trailer and if it feels like your kind of thing, it probably is. Full Review »

But for me I really appreciated what the devs did here. From my understanding it was essentially just two guys, with assistance for music and a few other things. I really enjoyed the world and culture they've created. They even went through the trouble of creating a new language for the game, which really helps with immersion. Essentially the game is an adventure game where you are a scout following the mythical hymnwave which is said will lead your people to a new homeland. Once there you and a few other begin exploring and analyzing this wonderous new planet. You are to catalogue the new flora and fauna you discover as well as tracking the aforementioned hymnwave. You use the titular Jett to accomplish this. It takes a little bit to get accostomed to the controls, which are unusual. I suspect many people will not like them. But for me it worked. The game really felt like what it must have been like to be a member of the crew on Star Trek. For people who like unique indie games this could be something you'd like. I'm really enjoying it. Excellent idea, terrible execution. Everything takes about twice as long as it needs to.
