In short, fans of atmospheric horror owe it to themselves to pick this up. This is absolutely one of the best horror games I’ve played, and while there are a few little issues here and there, this isn’t even the end of development. There’s a more tailored scenario gameplay mode already on the horizon for a later update, and I expect things will only go up from there.
Throughly unsettling in all the right ways, World of Horror is a callback to 80s adventures of old, with heavy doses of Junji Ito and Lovecraft. With grotesque art, excellent music and many mysteries and encounters to explore, it's sure to enthrall you.
Meisterhafte Mischung aus adventure rpg und Ressourcen Managementmit einem echt guten Pixel Art und fantastischer Atmosphäre hoffe da kommen in Zukunft noch mehr updates
World of Horror seems to hit all its goals. While its approach to horror is rather derivative of Junji Ito, it’s applied in a creative way and with a vision of its own. I can’t say I was blown away because it really is exactly the game that it claims to be. However, I was immensely satisfied. It’s a wonderfully modular experience, but if you’re deathly afraid of numbers, then that’s where you’ll find the real horror.
World of Horror is a title that stands out for its retro style and extensive content that will delight those players looking for something in the vein of Junji Ito's works
If its unpredictability is a double-edged sword, though, we can imagine ourselves returning to this as we would a beloved horror novel or film, albeit one whose macabre myths are capable of wrongfooting us even on the umpteenth revisit. [Issue#391, p.120]
Reviewing a game from a solo developer, especially one with so much obvious love and care poured into it can be difficult. As a calling card for Koźmiński, World of Horror is astonishing – a stunning achievement, an incredible piece of work. As a game? It’s not bad. World of Horror will impress you more than it scares you, but it really is very impressive, at least. For all its faults, fans of Junji Ito would be hard pressed to find a more loving homage.
A love letter to surreal Lovecraft inspired J-Horror such as Ito Junji, through the medium of a classic 80's roguelike, World of Horror has enough content, difficulty, and interesting stories to keep you hooked for hours. A must play for horror enthusiasts and fans of old school resource management roguelikes.
World of Horror wasn't in my radar so I was pleasantly surprise when I first pick it up and played this game for the first time. World of Horror is a pixelated roguelite game with turn-based combat build in it. But what makes this game so interesting is the aesthetics and sound design for the game that make it so horrifying at times but yet so alluring.
The game artstyle definitely took some inspiration from Junji no Ito most nortable work, the calm and relaxing village that you as a player will explore, where you will slowly find yourself in a horror like situation once you see through the facade that is within the village.
I wholeheartedly endorse this game and would hope that more people who are into horror games will likely give this a try.
It's an overrated, overhyped piece of crap!If you attempt the tutorial, you will be completely wasting your time. This is not a "roguelike", it's just forces one or two of the same scenarios and enemies over and over again. The "battle system" and use that term extremely loosely, is poorly designed to set you up for consistent failure. It is a blatant ripoff of the typical cliché horror tropes with arbitrary "endings" that leave very little to the imagination.Sloppy and lazy art direction that looks like it was plagiarized from Ito's works, wonky gameplay mechanics that even a meth head would struggle with, and vague direction in a "tutorial" that sets you up more for failure than actually teaching you anything of value on how to play this fake game. This half-baked game was rushed, which is the problem with most wannabe indie game developers who have little to no understanding of what makes a horror game really work. The only "horror" is that I wasted three and a half hours on the god damned tutorial struggling to learn how their extremely convoluted and poorly thought out combat system works. Which is not at all. The "graphics", if one could call them that, are an eye sore and a pain to look at. The colors clash and what little effort that was put into this was wasted. They should have spent more time on the tutorial's content to explain the system, but it looks very rushed. I lost interest in the "tutorial" that I don't care what the rest of this fake game's "content" is, which I doubt is any better. There is very little to interact with, and the "cutscenes" are tedious to watch, unskippable, and often interrupted with bland "Events" that flipflop so much that little is explained as to why it is happening, what the reasoning is, or for that matter that you have the illusion of "choice" which means nothing in this fake game. I feel the trailer was extremely misleading, and this game was rushed more for the cash grab rather than actually producing a quality game. The "early access" was a scam: This was merely to hype up an extremely shallow and underdeveloped product that is still over priced, even when on sale. Anyone who had "early access" was paid by the developer to pad reviews and promote a game that is more of a scam than anything else. I find it to be a bore, there was very little to challenge me and when I play a game, I expect to DO SOMETHING! There was little to really impress me with this. A pretty trailer does little to hold my interest and there is multiple complaints that fall on deaf ears from users who have experienced the same issues as I have, that says a lot about this pompous "Developer".
SummaryExperience the quiet terror of this 1-bit love letter to Junji Ito and H.P. Lovecraft. Navigate a hellish roguelite reality with turn-based combat and unforgiving choices. Experiment with your deck of event cards to discover new forms of cosmic horror in every playthrough. The inevitable awaits...
