While a touch slower-paced than many of the Sonic the Hedgehog titles, Polyroll takes its time to let players warm up to it. With 36 levels and unique boss encounters, it is a fairly expansive experience. While it isn’t a killer app, for $9.99 USD, this bug might just scratch an itch for some old school platforming.
Polyroll is a simple adventure that accurately reflects the price you pay for the game. To the title’s credit, all things are in good, working order, and I have no complaints about the controls or the game’s performance. Polyroll is, by and large, a spiritual sibling to the side-scrolling Sonic games we already know and love. If you’re looking for a Sonic experience, Polyroll will handily deliver that in a small, simple, and cost-effective package. Otherwise, this one doesn’t do much to stand out in a heavily saturated genre.
With a low selling price and a batch of creative, challenging bosses, Polyroll is too short and features a gameplay that sometimes ends up feeling unintuitive. Overall, Polyroll ends up in the middle of the road and doesn't particularly stand out amidst its peers.
