Poor controls and bad hit boxes , I give this game a 0/10 I recommend playing the original over this trash

Torture porn masquerading as a game. The game actively sets you up for failure (and no, not too hard bosses, but actively makes it so you can ruin a save file with dozens of hours played). Difficulty wise, it's manageable. This is not a remaster of the game. In fact, all the original textures, assets and character models from the xbox 360 version are used and unchanged. The framerate is not locked for some reason so you still experience drops when fighting bosses. The frame pacing issue also makes a comeback which makes the game feel clunky. The fire and fog effects are worse than the original xbox 360 version in fact, they replaced the effects with moving textures.

Considering the port was delayed for almost six months, this one is not worth your time and money and certainly not worth $40. Don't let the good critics fool you.

this is a 360 version with some frames more.... when you buy a remaster is because you receive a best version from 7 years ago.. no an old version from 360

I've played the original port on PC and Xbox 360 I've played 600+ total hours on the first entry to the series alone and seeing that the new switch version was coming out i was ecstatic to hear the news and bought a switch in early may, they delayed the game til October because of technical issues only to release a jankey port that i regret purchasing.

the frame rate dips quite often even when docked
the servers are TERRIBLE (both co op and PvP)
online multiplayer feels like the other players are on a full 2 second minimum time delay
the audio is notably WORSE than the original with fog doors death sound and bonfires all sounding wrong or distorted (even in 5.1 surround docked)
including the sound cutting out entirely for a short moment (docked mode)

This port is a disgrace to this games success elsewhere and i recommend until patched to AVOID this as a purchase if you're wanting a good experience with the series either returning or new.

That being said here are the pros to having the switch version:
Solaire Amiibo for fast emote gesture access (amiibo not included)
PORTABLE which i will say is very nice to be able to play on the go
Physical cartridge so you can share with friends

Please consider my review but please don't base your choice on solely my review. I'll update this review if the game receives proper updates fixes with a more proper score but until then this game will remain a 4 out of 10 (switch only)

for the base game without the switch reviews i would give it a 9/10. the bugs do no justice to such a popular game

They took the greatest game of all time, changed almost nothing, rereleased it and slapped "remastered" on it. THIS GAME IS NOT A REMASTER. IT IS LITERALLY ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THE ORIGINAL GAME. F*** whoever was responsible for this. You could have made an actual remaster which this game sorely needs, but instead you just ruined our chances of ever getting a proper remaster. F*** you.

This was my first Dark Souls game - and a last. This game is hard I get it. You die a lot etc. But how anyone can enjoy the way you control your character. Movement is terrible (with or without armor). Hit boxes are all over the place. I have tried to like this game, but after Anor Londo I just can't. Controls are just too bad. Game may be satisfying if you don't mind dying because of some stupid random **** which will happen all the time. I don't mind getting burned by dragon but being teleportated to abyss because your enemy turned and you where staying near him is just a bad design. Expand

As much as I love Dark Souls, this port is just a disaster. It's littered with bugs that don't exist in any other version of the game and the framerate stutters constantly. It's littered with bugs that don't exist in any other version of the game and the framerate stutters constantly. The AI is absolutely bizarre and bosses frequently get stuck spamming the same attack over and over again for the whole fight, sometimes to their detriment, sometimes to yours. Enemy aggro is far less consistent and ends up making some areas much easier and others much more difficult, depending on whether enemies are failing to realize you're there until you're two feet away or are already charging at you before you've even seen them, and this will often change between game loads. Sometimes enemies and other NPCs will simply not load in at all in some areas. Fall damage, being tied to the framerate, can be extremely inconsistent, with very long falls sometimes doing next to no damage and very short falls nearly killing you. Iframes have been changed in a way that makes them very inconsistent and makes a lot of attacks from various bosses completely impossible to avoid unless you're in a position to completely avoid the attack hitbox, which is, unfortunately, a guessing game with the way a lot of Dark Souls hitboxes are shaped.

Overall, this port is just a mess, and is no way to play one of the best RPGs ever made.

Man, I wanted to like this so bad. I have heard so much love for From Software and the games they put out. They also look crazy fun and exciting. The bosses are incredible. I also enjoy hard games such as Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Monster Hunter, ect. But this game explains nothing to you. Doesnt tell you anything about its systems or explain basic functions of the game. You need a guide in order to know where to go and what to do. I got quite far in the game only to realize I spec'd all wrong and would have to start over to fix it. I hop down the road to try another From Software game, but unfortunately this fell very flat for me. Expand

It’s another edition of the same old thing. One that has nothing to offer apart from what should be offered in the least – and still doesn’t accomplish it well enough to be worthy of any praise. [13/2018, p.76]

There are technical limitations inherent with the Switch version of Dark Souls, but if you're from a time where you can fight through it, you should be OK. [Issue #37 – January/February 2019, p. 73]

Dark Souls Remastered on the Nintendo Switch brings a new kind of revelry to the moment-to-moment victories like finding a bonfire or killing a boss.
